4.10 gears? Good idea?
I have a stock 02 ws6 with ram air with some mods done, such as the slp air induction package and exhaust system. I was looking to get new gears but im worried about the gas mileage. I drive the car every day and was wondering if anyone else had the gears or knew how much i would lose as far as gas mileage. any help would be very useful!

A4 or M6?
I have a friend with a Firehawk A4 w/4.10's, they were in the car when he bought it. He says the mileage sucks, and that it's too much gear for an A4.

If you have a m6 it doesnt hurt too bad, if your an A4 get 3.73s unless its not your everyday driver.

Red Tint Jewelcoat- 2008 Trailblazer SS
M6 cars came stock with either 3.23's or 3.42's.
I run 4.11's on my M6 car. Mileage sucks, but that isn't because of the gears so much as it is the motor.
No matter what, tighter gears will lower mileage. An A4 with 4.10's will move out, but mileage will SUCK.
M6 with 4.10's will get better mileage thanks to that 0.5 final gear. I get about 20MPG going 75MPH with 4.11's and a large cammed 402ci.

Navy Blue Metallic- '00 Formy A4
My personal opinion, and this is based on nothing scientific, is that 3.23 or 3.42's would be perfect for an A4.
I had a GTA with 3.27's, I thought they were great.
I test drove a Formy with 2.73's the other day, and I could definitely tell they were there. 1600rpm at 65mph. A little low, but I'll keep them for the mileage.
