Pewter- 2000 Firehawk #506 A4
Lookin for advice
I recently bought a 2000 Firehawk (A4). I had a bolt on 96 Z28 before, and the stock Hawk is already faster. Wish I wouldn't have wasted my money on that LT1 now. Anyhoo, this is my daily driver and I have never been to a track, but I would like to have around 400 rwhp. Some ideas I had are:
Lid
SSautochrome or Pacesetter LT's
ORY
Hooker or Magnaflow catback
LS6 intake
ported TB
ASP U/D pulley
160* thermostat
TR224 or similar cam
3000 or so stall
tune
and then MAYBE Dart heads or ported LS6 heads later on
Does this look like it can get me where I would like to be or really close? One of my concerns/questions was about the stall. How do they work? If I get a 3000 rpm stall, what will it feel like to drive compared to stock? Is 3000 enough or would 3500-3600 be better for that cam? Would a stall be ok for a first or second mod (after the cheap as hell lid)
I'm new to LS1's but I am eager to learn. I want to ass rape my boss's 05 GTO (headers and CAI only).
Thanks for any info you can give me.Last edited by p_funk22; 07-27-2007 at 01:33 PM.

Is a 3000 stall okay with the cam size I am looking at? And would it make a big difference before the cam?

If you do the stall just make sure you put a trans cooler in too.

Look into Sub frame connectors also. I would probably get a 3500 stall instead of 3000. A stall is the best first mod for automatic tranny LS1 cars. You will also want an LS6 intake.

Yeah, I forgot to put the suspension stuff. I am definitely getting SFC's, LCA's, STB, and possibly panhard rod and torque arm. Also, Moser axles and TA diff cover. I know 10 bolt is shit, but I'm not looking to put crazy power down so a 9 inch or 12 bolt would be overkill. For now anyway. So what is a 3500 stall like? is it just for launching or does it make a difference throughout every gear?

What if I'm just cruising down the highway? Will I be at 4k rpm's going 80? or does it drive normal-ish when you're not all in it?

You've gotten some good advice so far. I notice you said you were going with upgraded axles and a cover for your rear. Do yourself a favor and hold that money back until you can get a 12 bolt. You'll just be wasting that money dumping it into your 10 bolt. I know a4 cars are easier on rears and all that but putting 400+ down your 10 bolt won't last.
