Kevin, huh?
That is bizarre.
Come to think of it, I knew a girl named Stevie also. I had an English-Lit class with her...she was younger than me...from New Hampshire I think. She was pretty fucking smokin too......she had an attitude too.

Black, Black- 2011 "Generic" Gasser
In this thread there is two types of "hippies" beng discussed. Yesterdays and todays. Big difference.
Todays hippie uses the "hippie" mantra to free load and basically be a pile of worthless shit. They have no cause or reason.
Yesterdays hippie decided that the political purpose of the U.S. needed to be changed and that most of America was oppressed when voicing their opinion. They sought to change that with the lifestyle they chose by staging protests and rallies that eventually changed our nation. Perhaps you could fault the hippies from the 60's for helping to shape our country to what it is. And yes, many of them may be prospering from "Drug" companies. But that's because they grew up and invested wisely(401k, Stocks,etc..). They took advantage of the change they helped to create.
Todays hippie doesn't have their own Mayor Daly or the Kent state shootings and so on. But maybe if it wasn't for them, we all would have our own Daly's and Kent states still today.
The old hippies made a positive impact on our country. The new ones pretty much free load off of it.

"We" ( the old hippies) are a total 180 from todays shitbags....we were all about freedoms and exposing the institutions right wing nazi bullshit for what it was.....and yeah we got high daily.....but the focus was on protesting the Goose stepping asswipes that were prevelant in the 60's....

i completely agree that today's hippies are pieces of shit. i got to college and i see these dreadlock headed, sandle and hemp cloth tie die skirts fagging around campus like they own the place. they're complete dipshits but because they are seniors they know more than those of us that lived their own separate life before coming back to school at age 22.
i do blame a lot of the problems of our country today on the 60's generation hippies. i think that that's evident from where i stem my original argument. sure they have invested wisely...many of them anyway. i don't think that that excuses them from blowing up an industry that was well intentioned at first but has now grown into an out of control monster that just by itself can set in motion economical events that can destroy families and send the country into a tailspin. to me that's atrocious. i think like you said that they felt, and history tends to feel, that they had a cause to fight for. but i think that their lifestyle choices were short sighted and that they didn't realize the implications in the longrun of the things that they chose to do no matter how well intentioned it may have been.
but...just one man's opinion ya know.

I had (still have?) ADD, I was diagnosed when I was seven years old. Apparently the teacher thought that because I was a little terror in the class room, I had some sort of shit that will need a prescription. Wrong, bitch. I wasn't a problem in class because of ADD, no, it was because I was SEVEN YEARS OLD. Stop trying to drug kids up to make your job easy. They're supposed to be like that. If you want an easy teaching job, go teach college students. So anyway, I was taking Ritalin (Thats the correct spelling by the way) until I was about 10 years old, at which point I said fuck this and stopped taking that shit. And look: Besides my choice of vehicle, I turned out perfectly fine.
