Killed 06 Saleen s281, but beware doesnt know how to drive!
I was driving home from the girls house, heading east on L street in chula vista. I pull up to a light and I see a saleen s281 w/ exhaust, or it was just loud, next to some lil civic talking to some girls, it was a yellow convertible with license plate "NMBR281" he took off burning some rubber so I stayed right behind him passed the civic and drove past him fairly easily, we slowed down for the next light, we gave each other the thumbs up and went, he had me at first, then once I got traction i flew past him pretty easily I know he didn't let off since I could hear his exhaust, but he couldnt shift worth a shit, I started slowing down and he almost HIT ME! he kinda swirving into my lane. We got to the light and the civic girls were then looking at me - we got onto the freeway 805 south and I tried to do another one, but he did a ricer flyby and AGAIN almost hit me by coming into my lane. I didn't feel like catching up. I didn't realize the new saleens weren't that fast? Im sure it probably wasn't supercharged -
I also got a g35 a while later to 120, then let off kept him by about 2 cars away from me.
Fun night

Even the supercharged ones ain't that fast...a half-ass modded LS1 will have no problem with one. They only come with a putrid 4lbs boost stock, and 3.55 gears.

yeah the s281's are chumps, they are slow and sound weak with their stock exhaust, hell the stock gt seems faster and sounds meaner.

Hmmmm
They seem pretty badass to me! I got the below from Saleen website. http://www.saleen.com/s281_e_specs.htm
550 Horses aren't bad. But as soon as you factor in the cost vs. an SS. The winner is obvious. Which is really the shortcoming of all other manufacturer offerings. Horsepower per buck ratio is best with the bowtie!

Those are this years model. Maybe they have upped the ante.
I raced the S281 Supercharged, NOT the Extreme. They have three versions, the N/A, the S81 Supercharged, and the Extreme.
The second one did not have forged components, thus only 4 lbs boost. And the N/A one, well it is just a GT with a few bolt-ons.
I remember in 05-06 the S281 Supercharged made 435 HP, I remember looking it up after the race. I think the Extreme had like 450 plus or sumthin'?
Anyway, from my experience, they needed to upgrade their cars performance in order to justify the price tag.

I agree, Saleen is way over priced. Someone could easily take a regular '07 GT and spend a fraction of the money and destroy Saleen's performance dollar for dollar. Sure, the goofy appearance package, exclusivity of driving a "Saleen," etc. is all cool and stuff but I could not see spending much on body mods when all that's really on the table is ET's and bragging rights. Besides, it's so much more fun as a sleeper!
Steve has to sell a lot of decals to compete with the excellent F-body platform and our deep aftermarket...
Oh yeah, nice kill and congrats on not getting hit... twice
