This is a chicken and egg story!
Ok so here it is. we call "American cars" (Pontiac, Chev, Olds,Mopar) etc...over here rightly or wrongly. we have "British" stuff (Jag, Ford, Vauxhall,Rover) and we have "import" (Jap, Korean BMW Merc) etc etc
Now the Yank stuff has been sold here several times by the manufacturer's lke Chevy did selling the Vette and Camaro here. We also could buy Cadillac and Lincon town cars new here. Also the Ford F150 are here too.
98% of UK people wont buy them!! Almost always it because of the cost of running them. Fuel is $8 a gallon, but ours are bigger here by 20% But also build qulity comes into it to, nobody can say they really love the plastic Trans am interour can they! Now here is the point. The uk used to be a great car manufacture but as with America the choices have grown and competition got better leaving the the likes of Rover who didnt invest or progress up shite street! Range Rover, Rolls Royce, TVR Mini all owned by other companies ie BMW or Volkswagen so in effect the UK has NO car manufacter's left. The service you get here from ANY Jap or German company is so much better, the cars dont go wrong and they dont come across as crap to mr Joe average here. Its a process that unless Your GM or Ford realises that you guys want USA born and bread cars (and me too) they have to be as good as everyone's else's cars with new tech in them, (over here people laugh at a live axle in a car, think new Mustang) or you guys wll end up like here with every one in a Toyoto blabla bla!

I personnally love American stuff because its got a soul and a passion unlike any thing else over here and thats why i have 2 Trans am's. I am proud to stand sholder to sholder with you guys like my grandad did in WW2 !(I am ex army) I think the new Camaro is awsome if it is made right and not just a box of plastic parts!

anyone wanna know why some imports are more appealing than their american cousins to the younger crowd?

think about it. whats a cooler car, an eclipse (besides the fact that itsa girls car lol) or a cavalier. personally, i would take the eclipse over the cavalier any day, cuz the cavalier is just gay. or how about a nissan 300zx vs. a ford escort. you can get all those cars around the same price for the same year, same mileage etc. if your not thinking about what country its from, why the hell buy a gay ass car like an escort when you could get an eclipse?

the younger crowd does not consider what country their buyin from usually. that will probably not change, for the reasons above... and its understandable. i think the cavalier is gay as hell. i think the escort is a douche car. etc

I think the eclipse is gay as hell. I would rather have a cavalier because I almost never see an eclipse without some spiky haired teenager at the wheel driving like an idiot with a busted up primered body kit and a fartcan.

really? damn where do u live? i think in my whole town we have like a total of 3 riced out cars. all others are completely stock. including my girlfriends car, which is fun

I live in houston and like all big cities of 5 million or so, rice abounds.

I've noticed a few disturbing trends in mexican-owned trucks down here. They have bumpers with Corvette tail lights for a total of 6 tail lights, and also shorter and much fatter wheels/tires than stock giving the truck a comical appearance. Some of them even have spoilers on top of the tailgate or cab.
