bambo splinters and can cause nasty lacerations and infection... plus they break far to easy...
as for the knives... we use a hard reisin that has an electrical charged metal rod through out the knife... if you go to disarm and run your fingers on the blade you will realise that if this was for real that you would have just cut your own fingers off... also hurts when a stab gets through...
our sais, we use metal...

Interesting. I remember them bring wrapped which kept them from splintering. They were pretty impressive for speed, being they were light. It wasn't my forte though.
Taser knives!!! Wow, how much do those cost? That's different. We had certain blocks and take-aways where you intentionally grabbed the blade. Pretty realistic training it sounds like.
Your sais are metal? In this age of liability? Must be one heck of a waiver you've signed!!!
