i read a few respnoses but i give my experiences. i have worked in the field for about 14 years now i have down everything from front of the house to back and mang. ect. i worked at blue point grille from 4.5 years one of the top rest. in downtown clevelnd, they have the browns cavs, and indians account. the managers there would have to check with each table before the finish they meal. : hence any problems ect.
i also know serving one table can run you to the groung also. ( not sying you did) one of few things happened either server just sucks, is having a bad day (something pissed her off) or she could have just had to manny tables. now with that said nothing you experienced is still "ok" or exceptable. i think they did the right thing by tring to take care off you but remember you need to speak up as soon as there is a problem so they can take care of it. like example if you would have gotten a manager first when your drinks were slow, you may have gotten another sever or someone to help out which in turn make "your" experience much better.
i'm like you i try not to complain but i always tip 20-30 %. so if she gets les then 20 % she would know why. as much as we don't want to speak up that is the only to get item/ items fixed immediatly. i reccommend you go back and check that server out if she is there. watch how she works. maybe it was an off night. good luck with it and get the free dinner.
at our place if you were not that happy the whole bill would be comp. our gm told me once "500 now for 5 k later" (make sense).

I understand 100% what you are saying. I also worked in the food industry. I was a pizza delivery guy and sometimes I served tables for 2+ years. There were so many times I would get a $0.25 tip even in the dead of winter blizzard or Super Bowl Sunday. But I would never let it bother me. I never and I mean NEVER said anything to the costumer about the low tip.

You're kidding, right? I used to be a dish washer and I saw some CRAZY shit. One of the cooks had a cold and when the waitress told him about the customer, he spit a big ol' greenish yellow hunk of snot into the enchiladas and mixed it up real good. Apparently the customer had called the waitress a "Mexican beaner bitch" when she forgot his glass of water. Yeah, you don't do that if you're smart.

Management can suck sometimes too. One time my friends and I were eating at 3 AM at a Village Inn and the manager was middle eastern. The guy slapped my friend in the face for complaining too much about the bad service. My friend told the guy that was the biggest mistake he ever made and my friend was right. My friend "molotov cocktailed" the guy's car AND house. My friend later ended up killing some kid and went to prison though so he did have a bit of a temper.

I agree with the ones complimenting TGIFridays. Absolute best service I've ever had. I have ate at 3 different ones in 3 different states. They all were deserving of large tips.

I am glad someone else other than myself takes the high road when it comes to situations like these.
This weekend, I went to wait in line at a local grocery store. To set the scene, there were about 25-30 people nearby waiting to cash checks.
It turns out that some lady who was 10+ feet away from the register and shuffling coupons, credit cards, and scraps of paper was "in line before me". Rather than coming up to me and saying, "excuse me sir, I believe that I was in line here before you got here.", she raised her voice and yelled "you're going to pay for those items after I pay for mine, sir". She went on to bicker about how I ignored her presence and pretended to not see her because she was fat and ugly (and she was, but that's beside the point). The cashier noted that she was in fact standing in the area before I got there. I discretely dumped the product I went to the store for in front of the cashier and walked out the door.
I would have gladly let her pass by me in line if she had at least been somewhat polite about the whole situation.
I could have made a big scene and argued with this bitch, called the store manager, or something else. In the end, I decided that my time is better spent in other ways than making a public scene over a non-issue.
I'm sorry, but whether you are right or wrong on any issue, you almost always come out looking like a social psycho if you purposefully draw negative attention to yourself in public.
