lol fuck that... I see what you are saying.. but i do it a little differently.
I have been in a restaraunt and gotten horrible service, I paid with mastercard, and when the bill came and they have the spot to write the tip in... I wrote "horrible service"
I wouldn't even waste a dollar if the service was shit.. they can think i forgot all they want but the point is... shit service = no tip.
If the service is good, and the waitress is really friendly, i will usually tip 20-25%... but i do NOT tip because it is customary

like I said folks, get up and leave not paying for cold ass food and give her no tip either. on your way out call the manager and say sorry the service was really bad and and you are not paying, then leave.

Its gotten to the point, where I dont care what the "supposed" tip (in %) is...I tip solely based on the service I received.
In the same week, Ive tipped $20 on a $30 meal and $3 on a $52 meal. Tough shit...
On the $3 tip, we saw our waiter ONCE, no refills, no checkups, nothing...He was lucky to receive that!

+1 and not only that, I've actually done it before. There is no excuse for bad service. Ever. That said ,I am ALWAYS very nice and respectful to my waiters and waitresses because I don't want them to poison my food. Cardinal rule: Don't FUCK with people that handle your food.
I'm not saying you guys were assholes or anything but those are just rules I live by. I have had shitty service like that before but I always kept my cool as I was walking out the door without paying, lol.

+1 Shit service requires no tip. I got into a very heated argument with my ex-roommate about this because he is a waiter at Outback Steakhouse and he thought I was EVIL for not leaving a tip one night when we were at Chili's. I explained to him that if our waitress didn't give a fuck about us, I don't give a fuck about her. Actions speak louder and no refills or even coming back by to check on us shows it. That and the fact that my order was wrong. The bitch just brought the food out and then left, ignoring me when I tried to flag her down to correct my food order. I guess I should have chased her into the kitchen to get her attention.

Sorry to hear you got such shitty service. You should have asked for the manager LONG before your bill came. I'm sure the manager would have taken care of the situation for you.
I waitressed for 7 years in HS and worked my way through college like that. I tip 20% for OK service and up to 40% if someone was great
For those that think for good service you shouldn't tip better then 20% you really should try being a server and see the amount of crap you deal with

I was the buddy there with F-sane, and he forgot to mention that the asshole waitress brought the tip back. We just left it there, but were embarrassed with all the people looking at us. I'm the type that usually explodes during these types of situations, but i had my wife and kid with me and i didnt want to embarrass them and fsane + girlfriend. The restaurant is lucky that their food is great, because this is the type of thing that would've made me stop going.

Very well said. Namely the pay rate comment. Also guys, dont let waiters and waitresses fool you. They do very well considering they are not actually making anything. Oh they walk back and forth and carry things? pfff so do auto technicians at a much more extreme a level I might add.
