I am sure there is some Lincoln Limos get bought over there..... Problem is most Japanese dont make enough money to buy American and the ones that do buy BMW or Mercedes.....but Japanese people go insane for anything made in America

i would like to see some numbers on the subject. and they dont go insane over anything, ever heard of the xbox?
So we are opening are wallets to a foreign countries car company that wont open there wallets for ours. that is why i do not like japanese vehicles.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with buying American Made solely to support the US. I have owned an S-10, and would never put up with another piece of crap like it. Since then I have owned a toyota tacoma and had not one problem, get better milage, and it doesn't rattle and sound like it will fall apart.
Buying American to support overpaid lazy Union workers is stupid. When American car companies pull their heads out off their asses, design modern efficient and RELIABLE long-lasting vehicles, I will then put my trust back in them.

I am a diehard Chevy Guy, but I am also not blind and stupid. Our vehicles on the west coast last a long time, so resale value, and long-lasting reliability means something.

Look at resale values. Need I say more?

I hope it changes, but until it does, I don't want headaches.

I can not relate on the quality aspect of things because i have never had quality issues with my vehicles.

I did read that Japan had put some sort of ban on Anerican exports ... something about they will take one of ours if we take one of theres ..... All I have seen is cars /suvs from Ford nothing about GM or Dodge , might be the way I googled it ...

The Hyundai plant has helped us too......................... I even did some cunstruction work there. We also have a Honda plant here.......

I am not saying I am a sell out. They provide thousands and thousands of jobs for the poeple of Alabama. Those which otherwise might be jobless. They might actually be helping our economy............

I dont doubt that. I just think capitalism needs to work both ways. we buy theirs, they buy ours. To me that sounds how it should be.

Your whole augment is that is you buy a Foreign car it hurts the economy ,,,,, But if you look at all the jobs a plant makes ...not just the actual workers , but support services , placed that makes part to be assembled at the plants .. all the safety and other equipment the plant has to buy...not to mention all the other type stores that get started because the people working at the plant has more money ... That has a lot to do with helping the economy...

Maybe you should open up an American delaership in Japan. Use that line and you might dell a MILLION!!!!! Just teasing...

Thats the way it should be, but it isn't. We drive HUGE automobiles. Most of the cars we drive are too big for most of the roads in the rest of the world. American cars are also very expensive in other countries from what I have seen. Things like that make it difficult to have our vehicles anywhere else but here.

i dont think their hurting our economy as a whole i think they are hurting our american automobile economy

I work for a Japanese company www.Toray.com and they have never and do not believe in laying off people. Oh, and it is in R.I. and currently employs over 650 people.

Anyone saying it is not affecting our economy needs to come to Michigan and see the devastation. We have had the highest unemployment and worst economy for years now. We cannot export our vehicles into most of these countries that do so in ours. I'm glad that all of you down south are employed and happy but don't forget the whole picture in the process. We are called the United States and seem to forget what the home auto companies did to make the country great. They did halt production and build military for 5 years during WW2 when these countries we are discussing declared war on us and attacked us. You people preaching the quality are just never going to admit that toyota and honda can build shit as good as anyone. (SEE ALL THE TOYOTA RECALLS)

I personally think that we should support our own auto manufacturers but some of the reasons why people buy foreign cars include:
Resale value is higher due to the fact that they are in higher demand and viewed(correctly or incorrectly) as better quality vehicles that are longer lasting and less problematic.

They personally appeal style wise to the younger crowds and once someone is a fan of these cars a lot of people are loyal to some of their first vehicles so they keep buying these same foreign brands.

Gas mileage.....overall the foreign models get better gas mileage to their american counterparts........like it or not.

I don't personally support the reasons above but the bottom line is we as a country are short term investors and don't give a damn about the car market's place in the economy. It is a small part of the overall economy and if it would go to hell, oh well. I don't live in an area where cars are manufactured so I don't see first hand how it effects the local economy. We get our values from our parents and society so what does this say about the way we are being raised? The bottom line is we have not first hand experienced war first hand like previous generations and how important it is to support our country and what a privelidge it is to live in the USA......most of us just care about convenience(being lazy) and how we can make the extra thousand dollars in resale when selling these foreign cars. It would be interesting to see a breakdown by state of what percentage of people drive which types of vehicles.........I would guess that more people in Americas midwest drive domestics and the people in more largely populated areas drive foreign..........Just my .02 .......Thoughts on this?

I agree with most of your points even if they are incorrect assumptions by people. My pontiac G6 with the V6 gets 36mpg on the highway for my 250 mile family trips with 4 people and the trunk full. The sticker only said 31!!!
Why is it people will buy all the foreign hype and yet never give the american any sliver of hope or a chance. Anyone who buys a new vehicle as an investment is going to lose but leasing is still popular. And unfortunatally even the midwest (rustbelt) is buying foreign at an alarming rate as this state crumbles around them.

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner, some GM suburbans are built in Mexico! maybe you should check the engine, or transmission, radiator, or even light bulbs in your American vheicle to make sure it was not made in Mexico, or overseas.
For the folks wanting to support the US economy I would suggest you take a good hard look at what you buy and use everyday. Are you a supporter of the US economy by shopping @ Walmart even though about 98% of their items are made overseas??!? So does it make you an idiot for shopping there they have many thousands of employees here in the US but so do Toyota, Nissan, Honda...ect.
