    As I promise...the carnage.

Going with a complete rear end with only 80,000 miles on it. Cheaper then it is to buy a new ring & pinon gear set, new differential bearings, pinon bearings plus the shop fees to press them on, etc.

Had to explain to my wife dollar for dollar why is it was that way. I see her point about what if this one does the same thing. Told her that the difference is I'll be backing the lock nut off and reinstall with the thread locker.

Considering the top picture in the "rendering" post is a Dodge Challenger, I wouldn't take any of them very seriously...

That's why the recall notices say potential loss of control that could cause an accident. Dang!

Zap...I check and there is no recalls for Durango's even if they have the same rear.

Anyways, got a used on that was complete that only had 80k on it. I popped the cover and worked thru it all. Looks like no issues XFingers.

Got it all back together, just need fluids and test drive. I'll do that in the morning. Those mofo rear ends are heavy SOB's...

When we bought my wife's old 05 Durango the pinion seal was leaking on it with 11k miles on it. Dealership fixed it and no issues at all after that....we traded it in with 180k on it.

new rear is in, has a slight rubbing sound. not 100% it's coming from the rear.

Yes. After driving it some more and at different speeds it doesn't get louder or stronger. It's not very loud at all, you have to listen with the radio off, windows up and no one talking to hear it. At first I was thinking it might have been a wheel bearing going bad because I have no idea how long this rear had sat on the shelf. But after I've checked them out, tested them and road test them as well doing s turns no change. I'll continue to monitor it

Christmas shopping was 80% done before my Durango's rear decided to itself. So after that it's 100% done. The kids were already taken care of first, we usually wait till the 15th to spend on anything for the wife & I or anything that is family use like TV's etc. Me and my wife know we can always get anything we want later on so it's not that big of a deal. But I had already bought her some nice ear rings she's been eyeing for months, early on that she doesn't know about so I'm good. I also know she happen to order something for my bird (new carpet) because she had forgotten to change the email notifications when she ordered it.

Before yesterday we were still having drought conditions even with the rain we had gotten 10 days ago. As of yesterday we no longer have any issues. It literally caught up and exceeded what was needed.

You know it's cold when the 10 seconds it takes you to start your truck and get back inside is enough time for ice to form on your beard and hair.

Ambient temperature here this morning was -8 lol. I think with windchill they were saying -25 or so. It is passing after tonight though. 20's and 30's the next week or more which will feel like shorts weather after the last few days.
