    2014 gmc 6.2 out, replace with 5.3

I posted this in another forum, so now Ill try here.
I bought a 2014 sierra witha 6.2 I would like to remove that and install a 5.3 from 01 chevy, so I can use 6.2 in my 63 corvette.

I am going to guess that the '01 5.3 engine has a 24x crank reluctor and the 6.2 has a 58x. The PCM's would need swapped out as well or you would have to go with an aftermarket engine controller. Honest answer, the 5.3 is a stout motor and can be built. Why not toss that in the '63?

Kinda agree on the 5.3. Seen some wicked turbo 5.3's.

In addition oil pan and engine mounts plus transmission cross-member and drive shaft.

The 5.3 has some miles, the 6.2 is new. I did some investigating on the reluctor, seems the newer motors are all 24. So I could just find a newer 5.3 but then I have an issue with the direct injection system. I could not find out much info about that. Im thinking I should just find a 6.0 from a truck, since there plentiful and cheap, and buy f body accessories to bolt on it. Rusty trucks are everywhere here, im thinking by the time Im ready for the engine I should be able to locate a 6.0 truck with decent miles or wrecked f body. Just feeling around for now. The body will be coming off the 63 on Sunday to start. I did not buy the truck with the 5.3 yet, just research. I want to buy something running I can just put in, I dont want to do a rebuild first. No replacement for displacement theory. Thanks for the help

These guys are right, pulling the 6.2 out of a new running truck for a retro swap and then trying to stick something else entirely different back in the truck is torturing yourself. I wouldn't even ponder that idea for a second.

Sounds like a good truck as is, I'd leave it be and use it as it's intended, especially since you don't have a 5.3 yet anyway. Just take your time and find the engine that suits you for your retro swap.

6.0's are still out there, however low miles are hard to find and don't necessarily come cheap either. Better off to wait, spend a little extra if you have to so you have something better to start with. Even rebuilding one is something I would still consider. It sounds like you won't need it right off the bat anyway if you're pulling the body off. The plus side since you like displacement....would be a perfect opportunity to throw a crank in it

    ^^^Like FBJ said....

I picked up my LQ4 6.0 short block for $325. #8 cyl piston was bent like a pretzel from what looked likes a hydrolock. I had it checked out and all cyl were good except #8. It was just on the + side of tolerance for stock pistons. So I had it sit for a yr while I decide what to do. My waiting became necessity when I killed my LS1. So after researching and talking with several guys here I bored it to 4.005", ordered new pistons and rods and reused the crank. Built it all up and on break in had a rod bolt failure. Talk about pissed off.... So pulled it back out and prayed the block was ok. It was, so now what. Again went to FBJ and a couple of others . Sold my pistons, ordered new set for 4" stroke and ordered a K1 4" Forged Stroker Crank. Now I'm I a 403ci. On dyno with crappy injectors and what ended up breaking my transmission (cracked the 4th gear blocker ring and let it all moved internally slipping) it put down 450rwhp/420tq. So for the last few months I've I've worked off the list of issues what the tuner suggested and also get my transmission fixed. Hopefully this time when I go back for final tune it goes much better.

My point being is that you can find good used blocks and build them up.
