    Motor Mounts

So, anyone have any suggestions on where to order motor mounts and any tricks to removal? I am hoping that replacing them will help with some of the y-pipe slap on the body. I know it won't fully correct, but hope to help... Any input? Difference between solid or poly? The stock ones have 113,xxx miles on them. Is it time to replace?

The stock OEM units are not too bad and you know they will fit. I also know they are a B**CH to change. Good luck.

I'm up for the challenge. Is there a significant difference between solid or poly? Pros vs. cons?

I would definitely go with poly engine mounts. There are some pics and details in this K-member thread that included swapping out the mounts: http://www.ls1.com/forums/f66/k-memb...grades-163761/

Solid mounts will transmit every single engine vibration to the vehicle cabin. They are for racing only. A solid mount has no rubber or poly connecting the engine to the frame. Not recommended for the street.

Looks like it's going to be poly then. I am also ordering a new PHB, SFC's and Sway Bars for the rear end. For the front, strut tower supports all from UMI. Is there anything else that would be advised in swapping out in the front? I am installing KYB struts at the same time. Thanks Jeff for the link, that'll definitely be a huge help!

Unless you've had them in your car, you should not make this comment. I have them in my T/A and there is no real noticeable difference over the stock rubbers.

Solids have the advantage of not losing any power power over the polys or rubbers.

Well, I guess I am qualified in your eyes to make that comment. I have used them many times on race and street cars. I would not recommend them for the street. JMO. and there is no power loss with motor mounts, How did you come up with that one ?

If you're talking about a old school muscle car, it's completely different from an LS car. LS cars run a lot more smoothly than older cars and the Gen I motors. I have a huge cam in my car, and yes, I can barely feel it in the car, but for a stock car, there will be NO difference in ride.

Maybe "loss of power" wasn't the right phrase...

When the engine is mounted directly to the frame (as with solid mounts), there is nothing there to absorb/cushion the initial power deliverance. Because of this, there is a better throttle response all around. It's physics...energy is produced by the motor, the less energy that is lost throughout the car, the more energy (in this case, HP and TQ) is put to the ground. If the motor itself is moving with the flex of the poly or rubber motor mounts, then energy is being used to make that motion. Take that motion away and the energy is put where it's supposed to be.

OK I just can't let this one pass by.
Rubber is in a motor mount to ABSORB Vibration period!!!
Poly is STIFFER than rubber and you can feel a little more vibration because it does not give as much as rubber.
Steel DOES NOT, I repeat does not give and you will feel even more vibration over the rubber or the poly.

Old School of New School(just to let ya know there is no new school) Metal to Metal does not give.. in a motor mount situation that is.

I have the Poly and like them a lot. I also have a rubber Trans mount because I need a little break on vibration somewhere. lol

I'm not arguing that, but from personal experience, I can tell you that the vibrations are lost throughout the rest of the car. The only noticeable vibration I feel is through the shifter, and I like that. It's a god damn muscle car, not a Rolls Royce, if it's not rattling, vibrating, or making a loud noise, it's not an F-body

I have Solids and would never do them again. I have a lot of extra vibrations and rattles and its just not pleasant for a car that's driven frequently. Obviously every car is a little bit different but solids definitely affected my care more than I expected...it wasn't as bad at first but the rattles have gotten a little worse. Polys should be absolutely fine on most cars.
