Yeah I thought so too, although I can't take credit as I didn't take it (obviously I'm in the car ). Evidently I had some fans in the crowd, and a bystander took that shot (got alot of attention in the pits that day after making some passes) and he knew a friend of a friend. Eventually 3-4 weeks later a buddy of mine came up to me and gave me the pic (little 3x5 glossy).

I had my wife scan it so I could post. Unfortunately all my race pics are on glossys as we didn't own digital camera at that time.

Just picked this up 2 weeks ago.
1967 Camaro, originally a six banger and powerglide. Now a 327 and a Powerglide until yesterday when I swapped in a Turbo 350 and stall converter, lol. A lot of the resto work is already done. It mainly just needs body and paint, the most expensive of course, lol. I am very seriously considering leaving it as it is for the time being, since I get thumbs up or people asking about it everytime I drive it. It looks like a car you'd see driving around everyday back in the 70's.

Interior is redone. New floorpans and rear shock towers. New multi-leaf springs shackles and perches in the rear. New (and too tall) coils in the front. New tierods, ends, ball joints, idler arm/pitman arm and shocks all around. I need to cut the front springs, or get some that are lower. It has power steering, but drum brakes all around, so disc conversion on the front is one of the first planned mods. The 327 runs very well, much better now with the Turbo 350 and stall. It has an old school Holley 450cfm "Economaster", lol. Aluminum intake, longtube headers and a stainless Flowmaster crossflow 2 into 2 exhaust.

I'd LOVE to do an LS1 conversion to this car, but ironically my place of employment announced they were closing the day after I bought it, so for now and the immediate future...this is LOW BUDGET resto for sure. It came with 14" steel wheels and 195/75 whitewall tires, but the Draglites went on the 2nd day I owned it, lol...for now, no show car, no trailer queen, just a very solid, great start of a project car...

The full size pics below, most are as it sits today...the 3rd one is as I bought it 2 weeks ago...no idea why color looks totally different, but the present pics are the color...it is called Nantucket Blue.

Welcome to the classics! Great choice of a car. 1st gens are always a good investment with return on your money. Not to mention just cool to drive around and enjoy. Looks like a much better start than most I see forsale. At least it's drivable as is so you get instant enjoyment. I think what I like most is that you mention it needs paint and body work. I'd be tempted to enjoy it as is so you don't have to worry about dings and scratches. Alot less stressfull that way
Sorry to hear about the job. Guess the good news is the economy is supposed to be looking up if you believe what you hear.

Yeah and I think that comes with age. I like nice paint as much as the next guy, but I find those cars are staying in the garage more often, I'd rather drive the cars that need a little work. I actually find that I enjoy myself more and I'm not stressed as much. I'm actually more attracted to cars that are considered 20-30 footers with some patina.

You'll have some fun with that one. Fun to tinker and see how fast you can make that one go

Very nice find! Enjoy it how it sits for a while. Swapping out the powerglide for the turbo and a stall makes all the difference in the world. I'd be more than happy to drive it as is

Yep, rear spoilers look good on those. The clean look without is also nice. What I like the most is you have a wife encouraging you to work on it

Yeah, indeed. I'd like to swap my Super Turbine 300 (Pontiac Powerglide) out of my '68 Le Mans convertible for a turbo 350. And a stall. That would wake up my .030 over Pontiac 400, even with the anemic 2.56 rear gear.

So, Bob, was it a huge difference when you did the transmission swap, just like you thought? No more 85 MPH in low gear before the shift to drive?

Good enough to break my speedometer cable in 2 days, LMAO!
HUGE difference in overall drive-ability and fun factor. Wife hates the fact it will roast the tire, yes tire, as in ONE of them, LOL. I also swapped out the old Holley Economaster 450 for a newer Edelbrock 600, which also made a noticeable difference. I really need a shifter now so I don't kill myself or the car clicking forward too many notches with this POS Hurst Indymatic shifter it came with. The neighbor who sold me the Turbo 350 and stall converter (for $150) says he knows he has the B&M shifter for it somewhere...just needs to find it. I was able to sell the PG tranny for $100, so I am into the swap so far for only 50 bucks.

I have always liked Draglites, but think the car would look better with how I have planned it to look, That is, with Rally wheels painted body color, and the flat center caps. I picked up 4 rally wheels yesterday for $60 and a guy locally has a new set of flat caps with spinners, for 75. I think that will look sweet...

I also went ahead and bolted the spoiler on....along with a quickie spray can paint job and an old "I love my Hooker headers" sticker, LOL...

Well, got the Rally wheels painted and on today. Jury's still out on whether they'll stay as is or not. I'm not out a lot of cash for these...
I bought the Rally wheels for $60 (two 15x7, two 14x6)
Put two of the 195/75-14's on the fronts, that came off of the stock steel wheels, so that was no extra money.
Found the two rear 245/60-15 rears locally for $25 and put them on the 15x7's.
Ended up getting the flat spinner caps for $60 and 2 cans of Duplicolor paint for $15
$160 for a full extra set of wheels and tires...I figured I could not go wrong.

Painted the rally wheels silver, cut a coil out of the front springs and did a front disc brake conversion....I also picked up some Weld ProStars with skinnies and 275/60's on the rear ones...they'll go on sooner or later...LOL

That is what I'm talking about. I wish I had taken far more pictures of my Chevelles (no digital at the time, all film prints). Most of the pictures I did have, got destroyed during the Northridge earthquake. We had just moved and most things were still in boxes and scattered when my fish tanks (and everything else) came crashing down and flooded the carpeting and ruined a lot of things.

I now have a ton of pictures of my Camaro. And back ups. That will never happen again

    Take lots of pictures
