    Metalic knocking noise

My father-inlaws 5.3 tahoe has this metalic sounding knock. Doesn't matter warm or cold and increases with RPM. Pulled valvecovers timing cover and all looks ok. Only thing I noticed is that the timing chain and gears looked dry. Like no oil on them. Kinda lost were to go next. Any ideas ? Forgot to add tried cancelling cyclinders to change it . No change. Also has great oil pressure. Changed oil went away for a little bit . He drove it from Ohio to South Carolina ,when he got back started making noises again.

If I was a betting man I would say you have an oil pump failure and the noise is from a spun bearing.
