A few questions

I have a 2000 SS with 125k miles and an after market cam. I don’t know the specs for the cam. The spark plugs in it are AC Delco 41-985. Are these factory plugs? Were the factory plugs iridium or platinum? I’ve read a lot on the debate of iridium vs. platinum vs. copper, and I want to go with what ever it was stock, but maybe a different brand.

Other question, since I don’t know what cam is in there should I do anything different than normal?

Had the platinums in my 98 ss originally. Gonna try these nology silver plugs I just bought.

Thanks, the 41-985's I pulled out are iridiums, but I was thinking platinums were stock

Most ppl here have had their cars for so long that they can't remember what the stock brand was. GM dealership should be able to tell you if you really want to know.

Now if you asking what plug is the best to run then

TR-55 - Copper, last for about 20k miles, has the best rating in spark and operating temps

TR-5IX - Iridium, last about 70-100k miles, spark is not as good as a copper plug but the pay off here is that they last longer.

Dealers are going/pushing for Iridium plugs not because they are the best but because they give you an average spark while lasting longer then your standard copper plugs. Copper plugs are better at conducting current then the Iridium plugs.

I was wanting to stick with stock because I was told one time that what ever a car was built to run was the best to put back. The voltage coming from the packs was set for the factory plugs. If you ran something that needed more voltage than the factory plug your spark wouldn't be as good. I know copper has less resistance than iridium or platinum but with a bigger tip it might require more voltage to get the same spark.
