Well the current and older GT500s had live axles as well and they launched like pigs. Most people had trouble getting into the 12s with the 500hp models. Its the weight distribution and suspension the GT500s had that made then launch like pigs and handle like pigs. Since the car can hit 200mph they better have completely redone the suspension. Only time will tell once the cars start to get in hands of real world drivers.
Oh and pretty much every high end performance car has launch control... the top tier vettes do as well.

The GT500 will hook better than a ZR1 or ACR?!
What?!
No chance. Zilch. This car is going to be able to light 'em up at 100mph. Launch control is going to have to limit throttle to damn near that point to begin with. Make no mistake folks, this is a tire smoke machine.
I'll take one in blue. With grey wheels.

I am with you. Good post. How does 100 hp more and street suspension drop 1.7 seconds off a 1/4 time? The 550 hp version runs mid 12s so 100 hp and a better suspension MIGHTgive it high 11s. The ZL585 is rated 585 hp but its puts down 550+ at the rear tires so around 625 or so crank and that BARELY managers an 11.9.
CBR I hope..............

Haha nice, my buddy has a 09 cobalt SS but he wont let me drive it because he knows that I want to try no lift shifts and he babies the crap out of that car. Out of all the times I have been in it I have never been able to convince him to get the rpms higher than 3500.

As for the 1/4mile times for the new GT500 why don't we all just stop internet racing and wait for the car to come out and real world owners to start running it down the track. Then we will all KNOW what times the car will run.
Also once a real world drivers own the car I am sure a couple of them will slap some DRs or slicks on it and see what the car can really do with some traction.

Pewter- 2001 Camaro SS hard top
Nope CRX winter beater
What fun is that haha.
And back on topic of the thread, I don't know what to expect from the new 500. Ford has seemed to do a good job with the boss 302 so who knows, I'm just happy that in this day and age a domestic car manufacturer is producing a car with 650hp from the factory and can't wait to see the general response. Maybe it will be just a full blown ls9 in the camaro next.

But internet conjecture is so much more informative and entertaining than boring facts.
Where else but on the internet do you find full interior daily-driven 9 second Honda Civics? That get 40mpg?

Maybe, the ls9 make 638 hp but has A LOT of power left untapped and is a trq monster. We all got a glimpse of its potential when lingenfelter put a smaller pulley, full exhaust and new intercooler piping on a zr1 and made 740whp with a stock long block and supercharger. 550wtrq at 2500rpms and still rising. That is part of the reason the ZR1 is hard to launch. Stock it has 300ftlbs of trq at idle which isnt easy to handle once those rpms start going up.
I am sure the 5.8 liter ford engine has a lot of power left in it as well with the stock S/C.Last edited by Zinergy; 01-13-2012 at 12:13 PM.

Guess I'll have to wait another year to find out on the street.
Boost gets you laid, unless your name is Jon.

Burple- 1966 427 Cobra Replica
My little brother has an HHR SS. The launch control function is a ABSOLUTE blast. *Turn on. *Press clutch. *Select first gear. *Floor it. *Dump clutch. Bingo, perfect launch with just the right amount of wheel spin.
No-lift shifting is like slowly sticking your thumb in your eye w/o blinking. I couldn't unlearn a normal shift...

I dont know any way to say it other than you're wrong. It might have a few more hp, (literally), but a ton more weight to get moving, so that argument is moot. And with regards to traction, it doesnt have as much tire as a Viper or ZR1.
And a new GT500 on stock tires wont have shit for traction either.
I agree with you, but what fucking dumbass at some publication said 10.8 when the thing hasnt even been built yet. And putting sticky tires on one= no longer stock.

You also have to remember corvettes have run flats because of no spare tires or jack, run flats= shitty launch with big power. If they put the right tire on the new gt500 and get that live axle suspension dialed in I could see getting close to 10s bone stock. Hooking is not all about how wide your tires are(though more is undoubtably better).
You are right putting sticky tires does not equal bone stock but I could care less about watching a 650hp car spin its tires so I would like to see what it can do with sticky tires and a real world driver going balls out.
