high stall converter seizing up in 4th
I was at the track the other day watching drifting and as I was leaving, I being my normal teenage self threw a powerslide in the pit lanes (don't worry, no one was around so no one was in danger). I heard a bang towards the back of the car and my ABS INOP light came on. I parked it and looked underneath and nothing was hanging down and all seemed fine so I pulled onto the main road. It shifted through from first to second, and seconds to third like normal, but after it shifted to fourth the car started to brake on its own. So I pulled over again, turned the car off for about five minutes, and then tried again. The ABS light went off but still self brakes in fourth. Any idea of what this could possibly be? Its the second transmission the car has had and it is basically brand new with 21k miles also (blew the first at 130 on the interstate
). I appreciate any help. Thanks.

I am intrigued... but stumped. Wonder if you broke an axle and are tripping the traction control?

Odd it only does it in fourth.....I was wondering the same as you Jeff. I was thinking maybe the carrier though.

Maybe you broke a reluctor ring on the axle, and it is tripping the traction control?

ohh wait your car is a 1994, so it probably has 3 channel ABS not 4.

I'm trying to get my car on the lift as soon as I can but I work all the time so its hard to do. I know with certain mods that you do, you need to get a tune so the car runs correctly. Maybe the same goes with the torque converter?

And the car drives fine if I keep it in third, but I run through gas a lot faster because it sits at about 2300 rpms.

Good catch Chris. I'm posting from the app and couldn't see that.

I'm pretty sure you need a tune with a stall, but I could be wrong.

I went to a shop today and the guy said that i either broke the blades on the inside of the torque converter or did something to the differential. They want me to bring the car in on Friday and they are going to pull the tranny and send the torque converter to a transmission repair shop in Phoenix and take a look at anything else that could be causing the problem. If I do need a new converter tho, how much do they usually run for? I would be looking at probably a 3400 stall.

All depends on what brand you go with, I have seen them for 400 up to over 1000. I have a Yank ss3600 and I am very pleased with it.
