LQ9 build
anyone know of a write up/how to of a LQ9 or LS1 build. read an online article in GM High Performance on a LQ9 budget build and got an instant boner. Would like to see some step by step write ups and even some opinions...pros and cons from the guys and gals that have done it.

Found a guy on LS1tech.com that did it with pretty good documentation. not a step by step how to but his log of everything he did with pics included...I only scanned through it but it is very helpful (LQ4 but essentially the same thing). here is the link: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/genera...s-debacle.html

The LQ4 and LQ9 are the same engine with the only difference being the piston. Dished for the LQ4 and flat top for the LQ9. Either can be made to work fine with just about any goal in mind. You can taylor the compression with your head selection.
Other than that, a build up wouldn't be anything different than doing say,,,,an LS1 or a 5.3 for that matter. With your 6.0 engine you'll have a 4" bore to play with, otherwise it's no different.
Just what exactly are you wanting to do?

well I just picked up a block and I'm gonna have it bored out to a 6.7 and go with a K1 package, comes with forged rods and wiseco pistons, then go with a head that will get me about 10.5:1 compression cause I wanna throw a turbo or supercharger on it later down the road. Never built an engine before so I'm expecting a lot of difficulty!

I know that when you build a motor normally you build it specific to your Cam specs

i would love to do a 6.0 swap but something about the title 427 SS sounds awesome and old school in a newer model car.

mine has an LQ4 in it, with the lS6 intake, headers, Texas Speed Torquer V2 cam - 595/598 - 112 lsa, lS1 pcm, ported throttle body and mass air, Headers, ory and no cats with a single chamber flowmaster and 3 inch tips, dyno tuned, making 423 hp and 402 trq to the wheels now, just got a set of LS2/LS6 heads in the mail yesterday, 5 axis valve job and 64cc chambers, should bump my compression to around 11 or 11.5 i'm thinking, then a new dyno tune and i'm hoping for 460- 480 at the wheels.
