cam info?
Well i have been thinking of doing a cam for a long time now. My question is what is a good cam for a DD and also can i use the stock heads, plus what do i have to change on it? lifters, valves? push rods? or what? i was thinking into doing a ls6 cam, cause i want still pretty good gas milage but still i want to choppy idle and extra power i want to be able to notice the mod. I dont know if it can be done any info would be appreciated
my mods are ls6 intake bbk headers of road y pipe, slp exhaust, slp lid, free mods.

A4 or M6?
If a auto you need to do a stall first. Stock lifters and valves are fine if doing cam only. Upgraded pushrods are a must. Deping on size of cam depends on pushrod length. I got all new gaskets when I did my change (water pump and front seal). Valve spring must be changed depending on the lift of the cam. The crank bolt is a one time use bolt. It must be changed.
For the amount of work, I dont think the ls6 cam is worth it. You will see very little gains and wont have that coppy idle you want compared to a larger cam.
I am running the TSP 228R cam. 228/228 588./588. 112LSA. I hit 382hp 364tq on a mustang dyno with automatic.
The driveabilty is great. Very noticeable idle. Its a very popular cam on here. Its a proven power maker.

I DD my 228R all the time. I used 7.4 pushrods with my 228R. Valve springs are rated on lift. You want your spings to be able to handle the lift.
Mark is a good man I got 95% of my parts from him.

It does add up quick, needed parts with your cam install=
Valve springs
Pushrods
Crank bolt
Tune
Maybe gaskets
Most of our gaskets are an aluminum strip with rubber attached to it and can be used again if they are in good shape.
Optional, but recommended is a ported oil pump and Katech rod bolts if spinning over 7,000 rpms
The 228 is a very nice cam and falls into the large side of the "smaller" cams. Very streetable, nice lope, very nice power gains all acrossed the rpm range.
It should make you happy

i have a comp cams XR281Hr its 228 230 @571/573. it works ok but imp its too big for a dd with stock heads it does not kick in till like 5500 and stock intake and stuff ur going to shift at 6200... just not the best/ most fun to drive. my old hot cam had balls more low end power and sounds the same at idle
