Sorry bout your ride MAD!!!! I too am a LEO but in Illinois. I hope your lawyer can get you out of it sounds like the Cop was A BIG DICK!!!! I hate hear stories like that because it makes all the decent Police Officers look bad. The Georgia LEO is right we all aren't bad it is just the few that have no respect for a sweet ride and someone who does care of their car and enjoys strictly the drive and possible playtime (if you know what I mean

Update Got the Police Arrest Report and there are errors so I will need statements from Holly, Dave, Joel, and Scott the Wrecker guy when the time comes...

1) He asked me to say the alphabet from G-Z not G-X and failed it like he stated
2) I had no problem touching my nose with my index finger
3) My friends smelled no alcohol on my person at all, 2 of which had nothing to drink that night
4) I don't own a Trans AM, It's a Pontiac Formula Firehawk, he states everywhere that it's a trans am, this cop can't even read
5) I had no problem touching my index finger to my opposite hands counting to 10, My hands were shaking though from the accident, he states I couldn't do it
6) Distance from the tree to where I rolled to a stop was no more than 120 feet, not 180 and it doesn't state I wasn't using the brake anymore after I hit the tree
7) failure to note that I stated I lost control due to mud on the road which my friends can verify was there.

This report makes me sick. I shouldn't of been arrested or toyed around with like I was just because I was out of state. I didn't break any laws, even the physics of the accident at their "noted" distance after impact on slick hard clay that I slid on prove I wasn't speeding. If anything it shows I was going slower than 45mph.

I feel bad for you mad, the loss of the car is enough but they have to put you through all of this shit? I'm pretty pissed just reading about it.

Thanks again for the support guys... yea this sucks, wish all I had to worry about was the car right now. But I own it, so I'm actually saving money riding the bus since its free for university employees and students

Well that's still in probate court so we'll see what happens. If it gets dragged out to criminal court it will be long after that 2 weeks your gone before I goto trial

That sucks, if he lied in his report then court is going to be a pain. Don't you think a judge might believe his report over the word of your friends just because they are your friends? Situations like this are BS since the cop is obviously corrupt.

Well an update, trying to sell car parts off and getting declined on loans because i dont have much of a payment history. so hard to come up with 2k just to get this all behind me, can't wait till all i have to worry about is the car

Dear Mad:
Charlie hears that you're struggling. After being involved in a one-car accident, you were put in jail and held there until you were able to make bail. Though under the legal limit for alcohol, you were still written up. An insensitive land owner said he wished you would have been killed. On top of all this, you're now having to spend money for legal representation. Though the event itself is now past, you continue to feel its aftermath. For example, you mention that your permanent driver's license was taken away and thus you weren't allowed to frequent some of your favorite bars. You say that it's affecting your sleep, your appetite, and making you feel angry. Though there are no easy answers to your problem, Charlie will talk about some strategies that may help.
It sounds like what you experienced was a loss of control. When control is taken from us, it can be traumatizing. In this case, control was taken from you first by the situation, then by law enforcement personnel after the accident. For example, you had no control over the mud in the road, over being arrested, being put in jail, or over the bail process. On top of this, you feel that you were treated unjustly. Though the experience itself was probably traumatizing, it is likely that experiencing the lack of control is what is continuing to make you feel, as you say, "messed up".
Getting over this situation may take some time. For starters, Charlie encourages you to rely on talking with close friends and family to receive support. Sometimes individuals who encounter a major stressor, such as yours, experience an "Acute Stress Response." This means that the event is traumatic enough to alter your behavior and mood. Usually, the critical factor in resolving this stress response is cognitively processing the event in a way that allows you to recover your old self again. This is facilitated mainly through talking it through with someone else. If you don't have someone to listen frequently and deeply to your experience, Charlie encourages you to see a therapist for a few sessions. If you have just graduated, you are eligible for services at the Counseling Center (***-****) for one month after graduation. Sometimes if individuals suppress their thoughts and feelings and are unable to process the stressor in a healthy way, they develop a more serious response labeled "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder." This is not likely to occur for you, but there is risk if your reaction isn't addressed.
Although this may sound like common sense, engaging in good self-care is also critical in the healing process. Attend first to the basics, such as eating healthy foods, exercising regularly, and doing your best to get a good night's sleep. Although not a replacement for direct support from family and friends, Charlie also suggests that you begin writing about what happened in a journal. Writing about your traumatic stressor can help you begin working through what happened and begin to make sense of it. This, combined with good self-care, can help you regain some of the sense of control that has been lost.
Though you may not be ready to hear this point of view, taking responsibility for your part in what occurred may also help you begin to feel better. For example, though you were under the legal limit, you did have a good deal of alcohol in your system. Whether this impaired your driving or not is hard to say. What is clear is that it was a prominent factor in your being arrested. So, in addition to being angry with law enforcement personnel, perhaps you're also angry with yourself. Coming to terms with this can also help you to begin to move past the incident and get on with your life.
