Keep the egr or delete it?
Just bought a BBK intake manifold and updating the pcv system to the LS6 style, have a 2000 Z28 camaro. Should I keep the egr system or get rid of it and if i get rid of it do i need to get the car tuned differently or will it be ok with the tune i already have.

Kill it, burn it, smash it.
No tuning needed. You can also do the same above with the air pump that is tied to the egr. There is a thread in the stickies. You only will need a tune when you get LT's to delete the rear O2 sensors.

Get rid of it for sure.... I waited for a few years, then when I pulled all that worthless stuff I regretted waiting.

Just took the air pump off this weekend and when i get the valley cover i ordered i'm putting on that and the intake manifold then removing the egr thanks for the tips. So with the air pump and the egr removed i shouldn't need a different tune? Don't have cats and no emissions to worry about by me and i had it tuned once before when i put in my hot cam.

ask frost about if you need to tune out the egr. I removed mine, air pump at the same time I installed my LT's. I had Frost do my tune at the same time so I don't know if it would had thrown a code or not.

I have a question. I removed my EGR/AIR from my TA and blocked everything off and my mechanic says I won't pass emissions in virginia. Is that true? I thought with a tune I would have no problem passing. I am in northern VA if that makes a difference.

2002 Z28 A4 NBM- Sadly now demodded :(
Might be a problem if you have to pass a visual inspection and a tailpipe check.
If all they do is plug into the ALDL to check for codes then you're good to go (provided you've cleared/deleted all codes).
Check my sig. The 02 "passes" as it doesn't throw any codes and all they do is check the PCM through the ALDL.Last edited by 67CamaroRSSS; 06-17-2011 at 01:02 PM.

egr only operates at part throttle.....so the only gains to be made really is from removing the pipe out of the air stream. You can also just cut that pipe off where it narrows and get the same effect. Installuniversity has a write up on doing that. The only other gains to be made are appearance gains.
You should get tuned when deleting the EGR. There are a few codes to delete but more importantly there's an EGR timing adder table that needs to be zero'd out. If that table is not zero'd out you'll most likely get knock retard when going wot from those cells of the table.

you dont have the EGR 01-02 dont have it. only the air pump.. ypu can take that off if your state doesnt require it for smog inspection.
the egr tube goes on top of the intake next to the throlle body, and it goes to the passenger side head where it has the bolts for the egr
and the tubes on the bottom go to the exhaust manifold
