Glasspacks and turndowns right onto headers
I'm going to be without an exhaust system for a little bit. What do you guys think of putting cherry bombs right onto the headers and then turn downs, or bends that go out to the side? It would just be a cheap temporary setup, until I get a new system.
Would this be bad for the motor because of barely any back pressure?

Open headers are ok. I don't see why you should have a problem with cherry bombs and downturns.

Just make sure any wires are up and out of the way, you don't want to burn any wires.

you will still need the front O2's, like posted make sure your wires are looped up away from the pipes.
Also Is this a track only car? Driving around town isn't going to be as fun as you think.
Also OP Warminster, PA?

No reason it should not work -- ground clearance will probably be an issue so watch where you are going. Post up some pics when you get a chance.

what he said its fun for about ten minutes then u need to re-tighten all the screws that came undone in your cabin.... lol i ran open headers to my exhaust shot and IMO its way to loud, rattled everything on the inside of the car... cherrybombs and turn downs will be way better than open headers

If I do it, it will only be for about a week, until I get a new system. I know it's going to be loud as shit, I had TSP true duals and they were really loud, that's why I'm getting a new system. And it is a daily driver, not a track car lol. Thanks for all the input!

Also keep in mind you might have a problem with the local no fun patrol if you cruise by under throttle.
Just idle by or you might even have to shut her down and coast.
I didn't have any problems with the ls1 with open headers, but im out on the edge of the country.
Why not leave the TSP dumps in place until you get the new system?

its gonna have that old school hot rod sound, only a shitload louder.....last weekend i cut the muffler off my truck as it had a hole in it and sounded like shit....i was gonna do glasspacks and turndowns, but i rather like how it sounds without the muffler so im just gonna do turndowns and see how it goes....

I was looking under the car and it might not be as easy as just throwing them on as I thought. I might just put the rumblers back on like z28 driver said.

EVERYONE used to do that...
header bombs we called 'em when "I was a kid"...
I had mounted a set of turbo mufflers under my truck just long enough to get it to the exhaust shop after installing headers. Lil' pieces of flex pipe between collectors and the mufflers.
I had also drove my Big Block Bronco for about a week while waiting to save $$ for pipes w/o anything but open factory manifolds.
LOUD to headache level, but neither hurt or damaged anything in the motors.
LOTS of "kids" did what you were talking about and if you, your neighbors, and law enforcement can handle it...

LOL.....I went the Middle school in Richboro for 6/7 then transfer to 8-12 to Warminster. My dad move to Navy Housing there.
I remember painting the "Rock" in Panther colors in 89. Ahh the good ol' days...
I've had ideas of coming back and visiting then I remember how much I hated it there...
