So you guys are saying I'll be blowing my current 275 Nitto Drag Radials off the rims?

No, those tires will just not hook for you. What they are saying is that if you put a M/T 315 on a 9.5 wheel then you will probably blow it off the rim. By "blow it off the rim" they mean that it will blow through the sides as in the beading area, cause it will be incredible bulged and will not be safe at all with the power you will be putting down.
I think...

A 275x40x17 is what i would put on a 17x9 rim.Just to stay on the safe side i would not go over that. I had a good friend of mine had a 1999 SS with a 17x9 rim,and he put a 315 on them with about 18 pounds of pressure, did a burnout and one of the tires came off the rim. You can put a 315 on them but just to keep it on the safe side i would not do it

A 275 shouldn't have issues coming off a 9" rim

Well I MIGHT have my rims sent in to widen. Not sure. I guess I'll have to see what traction is like for me once I get the car back. It the current Nitto DR's are a major problem, I don't think MT's in the same width will be THAT much better on the street, or will they?
I'd like to get a 315 tire if I could.

you know having them widened means your wheels are going to be pushed inward and you'd have to space the wheels outward right
