What stinks is we have reserves here in the US that will supply another 80-100 years, and Canada also has a ton of untapped oil, but the tree huggers and other money hungry government officials are keeping us from drilling for it.

But from what I understand, they figure in alot of other expenditures on their gas prices to pay for other things that we here in the US don't have.
So technically speaking, their high prices are for other reasons and they have always been very high per gallon regardless of oil prices.

Exactly right. Gas is taxed soooo much more in other countries than here, no matter how bad you think it's taxed here...

12 years ago when gas was $.89 a gallon here, it was $1.79 a LITER in Germany when I visited there.

Europe doesn't have to drive the distances many in this country do and they have great public transportation systems.

The rise of the middle classes of China and India have had a major part in it too. A billion new cars are on the roads in those countries, along with the demand for gas to fuel them...

In some parts of Europe it is even 14 dollars a liter. But remeber they drive smaller cars that wieght less and I have visted Rome and the French Rivera. They like to drive differently that Americans. When I was there I saw 3 Lamborgini Diablo's which are way smaller than the American Diablo's burn out on the highway. Also, you can park on the side walk so no driving around parking lots, there really isn't any. You can almost walk to anywhere pretty much. Except of course driving from city to city.

    Premium is 3.59 here.

So you think that because the countries that pump it out of the ground and sell it to the world can afford to sell it to their own people cheap and tax free, that it's a political conspiracy everywhere else in the world that jacks the prices up? Not everything is the liberals' fault. This is a WORLD commodity. Our politicians and EPA aren't that far reaching, no matter how much you want to blame them for everything.

It really is supply and demand, to a large extent. When the US and it's western allies were the predominant buyers of oil around the world, we could exert much more pressure on the producing countries to keep the costs lower. But now that they have more markets to sell to, with different governments and ideologies to deal with too, we can't keep the prices down anymore.

But having said that, I do agree, I think you're right that someone is controlling it, to an extent. I say it's really the stock markets and traders that help drive the prices up. Speculation is some BS that I personally think should be outlawed. Traders drive prices up artificially, and then make a profit off it, while forcing the rest of us to pay the higher prices for it.

Saw as high 3.89 for premium (what all 3 of my rides get), I think I pumped 3.6X yesterday.

Just means more nights of having people over vs going out.

The local paper had a nice large article about their gas prices. They are importing 60s and 70s muscle cars to the area and people are cruising in them.

Makes me sick that its so easy for them to afford it. I paid 3.65 for 87 today.

ok in less than two weeks premium went from 3.30 a gallon to 3.50 a gallon here. What i dont understand is who is making all the profits? Is it the gas station selling it? Is it the supplier? Or all of the above? Think about how many people put gas every day. Dam thats alot of money!!!!
