What is the easiest way to change plugs on a 98 camaro SS?

Luckily I have a GTO, but I've been told number 8 is easier to get to from under the car

They are easy, except for the Number 8 cylinder. That is the one as you look at the engine that is on the passenger side all the way in the rear. There are several ways to get to it. From the top, ppl have removed the coils and used a couple of universals to get it. On mine I go from the bottom. If you still have stock exhaust you may need to move the starter out of the way to be able to get it. Ever since I got headers I have lots of room to work with.

Ive owned 2 GTO's and 2 F-Bodies and yes, the GTOs are a piece of cake compared to these F-Bodies. The driver side is pretty easy but the last 2 on the passenger side..not so easy. Underneath would be my best guess on the last one also.

On the # 6 cylinder I came in just in front of the HVAC box and was using a couple of universals. Its a bitch, of course having my niece who has thin hands helped a lot.

^^ This. A 1-1/2" or 1-3/4" extension on your 3/8" drive ratchet works perfectly. Remove the coil packs, which I understand are individually mounted on the '98, and go get No. 8 from beneath the car.

If you've removed EGR/AIR and have headers, it's not too bad at all. Just pull all but the rearmost bolts out of the coil pack and you can rotate it up out of the way. You'll have plenty of room.
Oh, i just realized we're talking about a 98. removing the coil packs could be a bit more of a pain.
If you have EGR/AIR and stock manifolds, personally I would just take it to the chevy dealer and pay them 100 bones to do it. That would truly be a bitch.

easy, i can do this in 30 mins from the top.
tools;
3/8 drive rachet (short if you have one, either will work)
5/8 spark plug socket
3/8 short extension
19mm short/shallow socket (use this on the end of the spark plug socket)
remove air tubes
remove coil packs
for #8 use a 3/8 drive rachet, sparkplug socket and shallow 19mm socket.
put the 19mm shallow socket on the 3/8 drive and put the spark plug socket on the spark plug for the #8. you have to be kinda over the top on the motor and reach in but it works perfect.
i have big arms and get #8 with ease.Last edited by jsmith564`; 02-04-2011 at 06:21 PM.

I remove all the coil packs on passenger side. i get #8 with a 3/8 ratchet and a 6" long 5/8 socket. Don't forget to put anti-seize lubricant on the plugs
