Look at the pictures again and compare the relative sizes of those heffers and that bear. An animal that massive and solid, even if it's an herbivore, can crush a smaller predator like that. And that's exactly what those cows were doing to it. All that mass landing on a limb can break it, and then that bear is dead. A starving predator will take greater chances, but a healthy contented one wouldn't normally attack prey that much larger than it alone. Think wolf pack. The pack can take down a moose, but a single wolf doesn't stand a chance.
Haven't been to NJ have you? a FEMALE black bear that weighed near 800 lbs was cought by F&G, seeing them in the 400 lbs range is common 600 or so while not common isn't unheard of.

That's cause there is so much garbage in NJ for them to eat, and no one in that state has a gun cause the state is so strict on it.

boy are you misinformed ! You may have guns in NJ and not all of the bears are in garbage, actually very few of them are when compaired to the amount that is in the state. The problem is that hunting them has been illegal since the 70's. since I moved up here they only had 2 hunting seasons for tem (this upcomeing one included) and one was canceilled due to the anti bitches crying "save the bears" I say screw all dat "lets eat the bears"

Bear is LGBT slang for those in the bear communities, a subculture in the gay/bisexual male communities and an emerging subset of LGBT communities with events, codes and culture-specific identity. It can also be used more generically to describe a physical type.

Bears tend to have hairy bodies and facial hair; some are heavy-set or muscular; some project an image of working-class masculinity in their grooming and appearance, though none of these are requirements or unique indicators. Some bears place importance on presenting a hypermasculine image and may shun interaction with, and even disdain, men who exhibit effeminacy.[1] The bear concept can function as an identity, an affiliation, and an ideal to live up to, and there is ongoing debate in bear communities about what constitutes a bear, however a consensus exists that inclusion is an important part of the Bear Community.[2][3]

Bears are almost always gay or bisexual men, although increasingly transgender men (transmen) and those who shun labels for gender and sexuality are also included within bear communities.
OK, so how exactly did you come across this information????

You rock chick! I actually had to look up the meaning of that word. Not a common occurrence in my daily affairs. I like it when folks make me work. It's been filed in my brain for future use...

nope they get that big because they don't run from anything for the most part. we don't have a yearly hunt for them so they most likely reach their full age and size. Like I said in an earlier post since I been here (almost 9 years) there has only been 2 hunts that isn't enough to get them in check. yea a few raid garbage, yea a few eat family pets( mainly rabbits) has been attacks on dogs and 1 bear decided it was OK to mug a guy for his sammich. The ones I do hear of that hits garbage are mainly at dunking donuts,go figure a bear raiding a donut shop garbage bin

we have a huge female in our neighborhood and I know she isn't getting into garbage because the town is very strict about leaving garbage out. Her back is above the hood of the wife's saturn vue (according to my wife)

so if a black bear lives 20+ years, isn't hunted, and has no fear of humans what are they to do but get fat and lazy?

To touch on an earlier post bears are ominivores like us they will eat meat or vegitation of any type if they like it. Berries are like candy to them,if pigs are left out they will kill them and eat them, seen a bear drop a deer,of course rabbits and squirrels if they can get them, grubs and other insects, the list goes on.

damn maybe I should have went to college and became a wildlife biologist!
