You sir are correct. Black bears only eat berries, leaves, rodents and shit. A full grown black bear would stay away from other animials not engage them.

They've been known to eat a lot of fawns as well. Again, small animal, but still.

You do understand that in nature sometimes the predator loses, right? And we're not talking about a grizzly bear vs a cow. As mentioned, black bears are MUCH smaller. Grizzlies eat black bears where their ranges overlap.

Look at the pictures again and compare the relative sizes of those heffers and that bear. An animal that massive and solid, even if it's an herbivore, can crush a smaller predator like that. And that's exactly what those cows were doing to it. All that mass landing on a limb can break it, and then that bear is dead. A starving predator will take greater chances, but a healthy contented one wouldn't normally attack prey that much larger than it alone. Think wolf pack. The pack can take down a moose, but a single wolf doesn't stand a chance.

Have you paid attention to where I've said I believe that is a cub or youngling and not a full grown bear? About the clear size difference between those cows and that bear? I am not talking about a full grown bear. Read the entire posts please.

But oK I give up. Clearly you are right. That is what you need to hear.

    -----

Just reading this again, wanted to add a few things. Guess I am not giving up yet.

    1. I am not saying that a cow will kill a bear in every fight. I am saying that in THIS case, with a bear that small, and those full sized cows, that bear was in trouble. A full grown black bear against a solitary cow, sure the bear will likely be eating hamburger as you say. A full size bear against a HERD of cows working together to attack as these cows were, the bear is still in trouble.
    2. I am saying, though, that prey animals do sometimes get lucky. Either with damage due to mass collision, or from a lucky well placed kick. Large prey can sometimes fend off, wound, or kill a predator. It happens.
    3. Are you just not looking at the pictures he posted? Of the cows rolling the bear under them, crushing him under their hooves, attacking him from multiple sides simultaneously? Look at those and seriously tell me that this bear was about to kill one of those cows...
    4. I have black bears in my area as well. I have seen them in person in the wild on at least 3 occasions that I can recall. So I too possess "I live near bears" knowledge.

maybe you should read what i was posting then... i didn't say the cub would win... i'm talking about a FULL GROWN BEAR... so i really don't know why you keep going back to the cub unless you're just trying to troll the thread...

Yeah I have nothing better to do than troll a bear vs cow thread. Look, you kept laughing about us dumbasses who thought a cow could beat a bear. And since I was one of the primary people saying that, and I was talking about THIS bear, I foolishly assumed you were responding in the same vein, or misreading what I said. I accept that we misunderstood each other.

have you guys seen the battle at kruger national park (if you haven't you still should, it's cool)? prey animals, when aren't fleeing, especially large herd animals when combined are just as dangerous as their predators. it's just common fact. predators single out the weak or young i'd say because they're easier to catch with less risk.

i think the black bear would literally have to be delusional or starving to death to want to hunt a cow.. i'm thinking that poor bear was at the wrong place at the wrong time. a solitary cow, maybe - but as stated a herd is just suicide.

Its not good to be a bear anymore... just like the gays took the rainbow... they took bear also, read below...

Bear is LGBT slang for those in the bear communities, a subculture in the gay/bisexual male communities and an emerging subset of LGBT communities with events, codes and culture-specific identity. It can also be used more generically to describe a physical type.

Bears tend to have hairy bodies and facial hair; some are heavy-set or muscular; some project an image of working-class masculinity in their grooming and appearance, though none of these are requirements or unique indicators. Some bears place importance on presenting a hypermasculine image and may shun interaction with, and even disdain, men who exhibit effeminacy.[1] The bear concept can function as an identity, an affiliation, and an ideal to live up to, and there is ongoing debate in bear communities about what constitutes a bear, however a consensus exists that inclusion is an important part of the Bear Community.[2][3]

Bears are almost always gay or bisexual men, although increasingly transgender men (transmen) and those who shun labels for gender and sexuality are also included within bear communities.
