I might need a new rear end
so i took my uncle for a ride in my ws6. hes a head mechanic at the local shop. well he said that he thinks that my rear end is about shot...
so i figure since stock sucks...i would just get a better one...
im working on bolt-ons now...but ill probably get a ATI Pro-Charger from Bob in the near future....
so im looking at about 400-500 HP...
i looked at Moser 12 and there were a shit ton of extras like gearing driveshafts and shit...
so basically...im calling out for some knowledge and wisdom
you guys havent let me down yet.
so fill me in on what i should get...and what not...

There's a group buy started up for the MidWest Chassis 9". This might be your chance to get in on a hell of a rear for a deal. Unfortunately I had to purchase mine right away (split my posi in half) so I went ahead and ordered mine. The price may seem high, but when you include everything in it, the price is quite comparible to the other companies.
With that said- we all konw what opinions are like- everyone has 'em and they all stink. There are pros and cons for the 12-bolt, the 9" and the S60. S60 is probably the stoutest, but it's also the heaviest. 12-bolt is an excellent GM rear that is a great upgrade from the POS 10-bolt they stuck us with in these cars. The 9" is stout, heavier than the 12-bolt, and has a ton of options. When looking for mine I ran into tons of complaints about Moser and they seem justified.
I'd love to be able to give you a review of the MWC 9" but mine won't be here for another couple of weeks! When it gets here, you better believe I'll be posting pics!Last edited by bberretta; 09-12-2010 at 12:54 PM.

I thought I bookmarked them but I deleted them all after I purchased my MWC. I do remember complaints about not shipping parts and the aluminum cover drain plug stripping on a couple (my 10 bolt Moser cover didn't have any problems). I'll look for the links.
A kid at the shop I do work at has a Moser 12 that he loves. It's a little whiney, but I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't break it in right and just started giving it hell when he installed it. I really think that most of these brands have quality stuff, just whatever you do follow their instructions to break it in right or you'll be stuck with a loud gearset that will do nothing but annoy you.

True... imagine how loud it is when you've split the posi and broke teeth off the ring and pinion. Makes all sorts of noises and none of them are good!

1999 Formula WS6 M6-sold- 2001 Silverado Z71
I've been reading about some quality issues with the Moser 12 bolt lately. Apparently Strange makes the better quality 12 bolt for our cars.

Sure. If, let's say the rear were to lock up it could cause damage but most likely would be it coming apart and just spinning freely or skip teeth on the gear. My suggestion, take it easy and start saving up. Whether you go with Strange or MWC, be prepared to spend at least $2000 and upwards of over $4000 if you go all out.

Is Bob even still in business? I didn't think he was. He wasn't a sponsor on tech last time I saw and his shop is gone....
Unless he is just selling parts now...
I assume you mean Bob at EPP.

Yeah, make sure you Google Strange 12 bolt. If you Google Strange Rearends there's no telling what you'll get!

Strange 12 bolt will be cheaper. Both are expensive though. Shop around is the best answer. You can search the classified sections on here and over on tech to try to pick up a used one if you have time to wait. They do become available....but they go quick when they do. Keep an eye out!!
