The fact that Jacob had a long coat, was his flaw that kept him out of competition. He was AKC registered, but Bassets shouldn't outta have long coats
But, he was so cute as a puppy and I just couldn't resist him. He had already been through 3 homes at 12 weeks old. He was a rescue. But, I brought him home. That dog was the biggest pain in the ass EVER!
He was exceptionally cute and very cuddly though. That is when he wasn't running into things and breaking everything in site
And... that's only a few of my wieners

Not to mention slobbery, and nosy, and sheddy. Bubba was a great dog, had a friend of the family give us a basset they didn't want. She was literally the dog from hell. We wound up finding her a nice home, Elsewhere. She ate an Entire loaf of bread AND a whole box of brown sugar, left on the kitchen counter, nearly 4ft off the ground!!! Plus she was impossible to house train, crates, HA! She'd crap and grind it in, sit in it, whatever.
After that, we haven't wanted another basset.

Jacob was special. One of my many 'misfits' as I like to call them. He didn't have that nasty Basset smell, nor did he drool and had a very soft, fine coat and didn't shed excessively. Never matted either.
He was extremely loud though. I had a house full of 'The Hound Group'. They howl in unison
But, I will never own another Basset Hound either

It's annoying
Lately, as soon as I'm in the shower for a few minutes, Pedro starts up. Then, one by one the dogs chime in (Chloe is usually the first) and then the next thing you know, the whole house is screaming their heads off and I have to actually get out of the shower, soaking wet and tell them all to shut the hell up
But, they do and I go back and finish my shower. I'm thinking it's all this cute little game they devised just to f with me. They probably all laugh at me when I get back in the shower

Have not had pleasant experiences with Poms either, ex-room mate got one for his gf. It was always shitting in the floor 10 secs after coming back in, attacking people and stuff.
