1.2 hours to mount and balance 5 tires seems fair me to me?

So a master tech that uses air tools can't beat the book time...
What kind of mechanic doesn't use air tools..

I used to get 0.7 for a lof and tire rotation.I wouldn't mount and balance 4 tires for any less than 1.0 but that's what repair shops want now a days, techs that work for damn near free while they constantly raise labor rates.

Hot engines, tight as fuck room to work with, the needs of a special tool to complete the job, or the simple fact that is literally impossible to beat "factory labor times" on certain jobs.
An interesting example of wacky labor times. To reflash the pcm on a toyota i was working on (forget which model) the factory paid .4 to do it. Well the reflash itself actually took like 38 minutes. So regardless of how "fast" I worked, it was absolutely impossible to beat book time on it. Nevermind the fact that theres other things you have to take into account before the reflash even took place.
Factory labor times are created with BRAND NEW vehicles, and most of the work on the engine they set the times with the engine out of the car. They know how long it really takes, but they butcher the time down because they dont wanna pay a tech any money to fix it. They do this because they can. Its basically an "eat shit" and like it situation.

I know this bit of info would break all my fellow gearheads hearts, but owners of modified late model "performance" vehicles are generally the biggest prick douchebag customers there is.

Makita 3/8ths impact guns and drills trump air tools.1.0 for mounting and balancing 4 tires is absolutely fair, the thing about the firestone recall was people were getting 4 tires and the spare replaced for free and they would bitch if we didn't have/install Michelins!

That is how G.M. determines warranty time...On a half assembled car on the assembly line with hand tools..or so they say.Every tech uses air tools.
Just to clear this up as well..for people that have never wrenched...there is a huge difference between a tech and a parts changer. I can change just about any part on a G.M. car in about half the book time and so can many other's who work on them everyday. The difference is between the two is the tech will diagnose and fix your car the first time, a parts changer will throw a shitload of parts at it,charge you for them all , and in the end your car will still not be fixed. Customer's are not just paying the time it took to replace parts, but also how long it took to figure out without replacing a bunch of unnecessary shit.

This is very true. About 6 months ago we had a 07 SS trailblazer towed in with a rod hanging out the side of the block, still under powertrain warranty.
The dumbfuck was stupid enough to leave his nitrous bottle in the car. When his claim was denied by the district rep, he threatened to file a lawsuit against our dealer and G.M.

Not if the reflash prompts you to input information during the process.
