headers or a yank torque converter for new Ls6
Im replacing my Ls1 engine in my 98 trans am with a new LS6.
I have about 1,000 in additional monies to invest into the project, I was trying to decide between an catless offfroad exhaust with longtube headers or a yank 2600 torque convertor. Which of these 2 will give me more bang for the buck? Or is there somnething else I should consider to invest the 1000-1200 into that would give me the best investment with my extra 1200 ?? (ie cam?)
Also, should I simply just get a stock ls6 intake manifold or will I get noticable gains with an edlebrock stage 2 ported manifold or a fast 90 or 120mm?
Im not a real big fan of bolt-ons since none of them produce hardly any noticable gains.
I look forward to your feedback.
Thansk,

trans am 00 ws6- 1998 camaro ss vert
headers should be 30rwhp
ls6 intake over ls1 is about 25rwhp.no need for the fast inless you get a cam.
stall is a great choice i would just go bigger.
there is a guy on here with a 2800 for 450 shipped i think.
so you could get ebay headers 155.
ls6 intake.............................325
stall ...................................450
pacesetter ory pipe...............135
so for a little over 1k you could gain about 50-60rwhp and the stall would help a good amount.
this is what i would do if i'm on a budget.Last edited by 1fastcamarosss11; 04-21-2010 at 07:35 AM.

A converter would most definitely get my vote. I've seen a converter drop 5 tenths in the 1/4. LT's aren't going to do that.

If you want sound with 15+ hp GO LT's
You want bigger ET drop SS3600
And to the guy who said an LS6 IM is worth 25HP over a LS1. Ummm try 5 on a stock motor.... You can even go to the FAST website and see it or look at the comparison on TPIS website. So much misconception about how bad the LS1 IM is.......

If you want to see the biggest 1/4 mile times a stall at least 3200.

another vote for a higher stall, I have a 3000, and if I had it to do over, I would go with nothing less than a 3600 stall.
Mate that to 3.73's before the headers.

alot easier to do a cam when the motor is out of the car. a stall will reduce your E.T.greatly, a half a second or more. remember these stall converters have a lock up clutch, which makes a 3500 stall very streetable.A ls6 is worth 10 hp ,a good exhaust can add 30 hp. port and polish your TB.

[QUOTE=shady milkman;2309597]your post kind of confuses me...name a power adder that hardly produces any noticeable gains ?
MAF, throttle body, underdrive pulley - theres 3 bolt ons that don't produce noticeable gains (less than 10 hp) but everyone seems to do them 1stLast edited by bossho; 04-30-2010 at 05:57 AM.

[quote=bossho;2310749]those are bolt on's not power adders..... people do them first because they're cheap and easy.
to answer your original question with a question....do you want to sound fast or be fast? If you want to sound fast get headers....if you want to be fast get a stall. I would get a much larger stall than 2600 though.....3500-3600 range.

could you pleas give me a product number for the ebay headers youre referring to? are they LT, block huggers or shorties?
Does anyone know if I could use corvette exhaust manifolds (ie any fitment issues?), I've heard there are gains equal to that of LT headers (20HP+) by simply using the corvette exhaust manifolds vs. standard ls1/ls manifolds

[quote=bossho;2310891]no problem....I think when it comes to headers and stall you want and will most likely have both at some point so then it becomes a question of which do you want FIRST. You'll see more ET gains from the stall than headers for roughly the same money. Factor in a tune too. Most people don't consider that when planning for mods but you're going to need a way to tune the car to get the most out of it.
