how fucking stupid are some people on this site?its a civil suit not a criminal case. they don't send you to jail for a civil suit . there is no more debtors prison anymore, they just attach your wages. in this great country of ours there is criminal courts and civil court. when a person serves you a summons its for 1 of 2 things, either the criminal court need your testimony in a criminal court case, and like in your situation they want you to appear for a civil suit against you(or to testify). take the summons as after the 3rd try they just pin it to you door and consider you served. if you don't show you loose in absentia. call your insurance company. if it was anything criminal the boys in blue give you a free ride to court to be served

So the lady i hit when i crashed my car is taking me to court I thought the insurance had fixed everything, but apparently not. I don't have any details and i don't know why she's taking me to court. My mom says some dude and a lady came looking for me to my house today at around 9pm but i was at work and since i wasn't here well they couldn't leave the papers... so i don't know what the fuck is going on! I'm not gonna lie I'm a little scared... What should i expect? This is the first time this happens to me. I mean i wasn't drunk and i wasn't speeding either i wasn't breaking any law, just not paying attention... fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

Same thing happened to me years ago. Once you're served call your insurance agent and let them know...you'll have to fax all the stuff over there and fill out this questionaire. As long as you haven't gone over your coverage amount they'll hire a lawyer for you. Most settle because unless they really got mangled they'll get more money out of court. If your coverage barely covered property damage than i'd be worried....anything over your coverage is out of pocket.

In my case she settled a few weeks before the court date. It wasn't much more than a fender bender so I wasn't worried...I think my coverage at the time was 100/200/100k. Course she was asking for some crazy amount.

First you pay it with whatever cash or liquid assets you have.

If that's not enough to cover it, you have to sell property for money to pay the remainder.

If that's still not enough, and you have nothing important left to sell, you just go into debt.
