Downloading Music

Watsup LS1 members? I need help in finding websites/torrents from which I can download FREE music from. I used to use demonoid.com and mininova.com but those have since been shut down. Your advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Ask Fsane what he thinks about torrenting.

He recently got the RIAA letter from his ISP.

I wouldn't.

If you really want a particular song, either buy it or capture it on your PC.

use newsgroups. if you subscribe to one that will allow it use ssh. with ssh you can dl what ever you want from them in an encrypted secure "tunnel" and you will be safe.

For discographies and movies do the following:

1. Download Firefox if you don't already use it...stop using Internet Explorer, it is bad.
2. Download Vidalia Bundle for Firefox.
3. Download uTorrent.
4. Start Tor (comes in the Vidalia Bundle)
5. Open Firefox and Enable Tor
6. Go to Torrentz.com...it's a search engine and will search out torrents on multiple websites and give you an option to pick where to download from.
7. ???
8. Profit

For individual songs I use Limewire

Can you tell me more about tor, or should i just do a google search? It looks like it just protects from websites, but does it offer protection during torrent downloads?

Torrents are different principles...

you get small bits of a song from multiple sources. if the sizes of files does not jive when put back together, then the torrent program will kick it out as suspect.

getting a file from one source is a lot more risky than from multiple sources. The multiple sources would all have to have a virus to get the virus on your pc.

it takes a while to learn, but it is worth it.

i use Azureus Vuze... with isohunt/piratebay

torrents are easy to use. You search for a torrent on torrent provider sites like isohunt.
DL the torrent
DL and install a torrent host program like Vuze
once the host program is installed, double click the torrent and the file will start DLing.
It might seem slow at first, but they speed up as they DL. Its all about seeders/leaches

ive been using Isohunt and vuze for years. Great for DLing music, movies and mkv movies(bluray). Plus vuze will convert mkv bluray to stream on my xbox360 in hd

**I only use torrents and DL what I already own for digital backup purposes**

I do the same, but my problem is doing it somewhat safely. So far, my roommate has gotten caught and I did once already too. Just warnings from the ISP. Next time they threaten to disconnect us.

this is exactly why i said to use newsgroups with SSL. your ISP won't be able to see what you download because it is encrypted between where you download from and your PC.

Interesting thread. I have a question as well. Not to threadjack though. I found a site called Last.FM and I wanted to know if anyone here has used it. It is a music/music video site and has music from various genres. I grew up in the 80s so I want to download alot of 80s music to CD or if possible, my Verizon phone(V-CAST) to play in my car once I get a bluetooth connector.
