Arctic White & Black- '98 WS6 M6 - SWAPTIME!
Total long shot...
But I have a fairly decent sized water leak coming from the top drivers side rear of the engine. I've ruled out head gasket but is it possible that I don't have my head bolts sealed right? I put a good amount of moly on the bottom of the threads and under the head of the bolt but my dad mentioned on some engines, he's had to put thread sealant on to prevent water working it's way up the bolts. I didn't pay close attention as to if the head bolts go into any water jackets... The engine runs strong and good just this water leak has me weary. Had anyone else had this issue?

First things first...
Drivers side is left. When you say right rear, is the leak near #8 or #7?
What head bolts did you use?
And also, you mention ruling out head gasket. How are you able to do so?

check your coolant pipes or plugs back there. Pipes if you still have the stock intake...plugs if you switched to the LS6 set up. How much coolant are we talking here?

the head bolts don't pass through any water jackets...they're blind holes.

We took the head off to check the gasket and retorqued down to spec hence why it's ruled out. The leak is inbetween #5/#7 but it's coming from the top? I used ARP headbolts and I have the stock LS6 intake. Were talking a pretty steady leak ... It's enough that I havnt moved my car since I installed the new pushrods

what do you mean it's coming from the top? Also, you have an LS1 intake stock so it has the crossover pipes that run under the intake. Check that back port where the coolant pipe goes into the top of the head and make sure it's not leaking there and running down somewhere else.

You reused a head gasket? Bad idea right there.
As for the leak, did you take the drain plug out when you dropped the motor to get all of the coolant out? And if you did, did you put thread locker on the plug when you reinstalled it?
Another thought...are all of your coolant hoses on tight? Could it be coming from the heater hoses? Check by the firewall.

No reused head gaskets. I'd have to be a pretty huge idiot to reuse head gaskets (which I'm not)
the coolant is coming from the head. Not from where the head meets the block. I'm hoping it's just a coolant hose. But fuck. It's weird. I just needed confirmation on the headbolts.

Sounds like it may be a plug that goes into the crossover line in the back.
Here...
Some head gaskets can be re-used, although the stockers shouldn't be. I try not to if possible.
Glad to hear you went with ARP bolts. The stock ones can only be torqued down once.

so it's puddling on top where the intake meets the head? Definitely sounds like one of those cross over tubes leaking. They have little rubber o-ring type gaskets on them.

doesn't have to be a money pit....those little rubber gaskets are cheap. I replaced mine when I did my ls6 intake several years ago.

I'll check everything out when the weather is good and see what I can find. Hopefully it's just a kinked or broken line or pipe.
