Stealing other peoples wifi?
How do you guys feel about other people using your wifi? I just got a netbook and found a few unsecure networks from my house...i'm totally riding that sheet
. Are there any risks to it like them being able to take files from my puter since we're on the same network? I am planing on getting a wireless N router just haven't got to it yet.

I used to do it for a while till we got our own. I would get it from my front neighbors and i guess they had no clue cause they never said anything but i think if alotta people use the same router deal it slows it down

It's illegal and if they know more than the average IT guy they'll probably be able to look at your files if you don't have strong security.
But it's a great way to hide yourself when doing illegal shit.

Neighbors network is unsecured so I used it for a while until mine got hooked up. I had full access to her files and itunes account and she has terrible taste in music. So they can have access to your stuff too and it really doesnt even require hacking your stuff, person just has to know what to look for.Last edited by raynor139; 12-26-2009 at 08:38 PM.

Your using their bandwith which means the connection will be slower for them and in turn will be slow for you especially if they are downloading large files or streaming movies/music or even playing games online. If it was me I would mind in a huge way. Just b/c its unsecure doesnt mean they dont mind, probably just means they dont understand or know how to use the security features.

Screw it i'm only going to use it for another day anyway. This thing has a N card so might as well get the router to match tomorrow.
What's a good reliable n router that's around $100? Distance doesn't matter but a stable connection would be nice.

I do it all the time. the people around my place are pretty computer illiterate and they aren't on when I am, which is late at night. they mainly use their pc's for checking emails and work so its not like they'll be crippled by me on there. yeah, stealing is stealing to be sure, but ask yourself this....ever take a penny from the cup at a convenience store? who's penny was it. nobody's. it was extra and so it was left there for someone else to use. that's how I see it. now if they got charged by the time used online or the ammount of data transfered I'd feel bad.

Borrowing internet on the go and using it for home use are two different things.
I personally wouldn't do it, not worth it.
If someone knows what they are doing, you'll wish you paid 30 bucks a month for your own.
