Provided that you know what you are doing to begin with, and have the corresponding service/rebuild manuals, isnt the lsx motors "easier" then even a regular SBC? Either way rebuilds are still more measuring and checking then anything. Anybody can put something together but its pointless if all the clearances are wrong.

    numerous lawn mower engines
    a few weedwacker engines
    2 motocross bike engines
    a 2.2 chrysler engine
    a ford 5.0 347 stroker engine.

Thats it. the 347 was the only engine that was actually measured etc

very true... that is the part that i HATE!!! i just want to wrench away... but if you're rebuilding a stocker the measuring isn't so bad...

OMG...I know. When I did my H/C/I on my Trans Am, no one was sure if my heads had been milled TOO much (60cc) for the Torquer V.2. I decided to just go with it and if I had had piston slap, I would have just ordered a smaller cam.

I don't know about rebuilds, but cams are so much easier a a gen 3-4 small block. The cover doesn't interfere with the oil pan gaskets, don't have to dig out lifters, they stay up by themselves, intake doesn't have to come off etc. Luv me some lsx

so you slapped the heads on and prayed? haha yeah you are supposed to measure ptv. 0.100 of an inch i beleive is the general rule of thumb.

Piston slap? Are you referring to piston to valve clearance? If your cam was not going to clear, you wouldnt have a chance to just "buy a smaller cam". It would have been a complete overhaul on your heads at the minimal. Having your engine out of car would have made it simple to measure, and it sounds like you got lucky with this build. It would not have been a simple, smaller cam swap.

.080 for intake .100 for exhaust general rule of thumb.
