Friends ls1
My buddy recently bought an ls1 camaro. He had it dynoed and made 327rwh bone stock. He was trying to tell me today that his car has around 380 horsepower when you factor in a 15 percent loss. IMO 380 is very, very generous for a stock car. Wouldnt it be more like 350?

Is this through an A4 or an M6? Drivetrain loss will differ from auto trans to manual trans. Also, does it have the LS6 intake manifold?
Ls1's may be able to put out some serious crank horsies, some have been dynoed stock at 400. (http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...ech/index.html)
Although this is Corvette spec (different manifolds im assuming...?) I don't think it would be unreasonable to be near that.

350 at the crank but 327 is feasible with the 01-02 cars.

99/m6. I think 380 on a stock car is very high. I mean the vettes and gtos were not rated over 350.
"2000-02 F-body is normally in the 305-315 range. If we factor in drivetrain losses of 10 to 15 percent depending on transmission types, theoretically the factory SAE net crankshaft rating could range from 335 to 362 hp"
^^ Found that interesting.

that's one of them funny 'familiar' numbers if you know what i mean. but honestly, mine went 332rwhp with just a Borla catback and a volant system. it was on the uncorrected scale and 34 degrees though.
forgot to add that there is a lot of variance of what really is 'bone stock'.

Maybe the drivetrain loss isnt as much as we think.

Some DYNO's are very happy. Also depends on whether this is on a Mustang DYNO or DYNO Jet. Mustang DYNO will read much lower; about 10% from what I have read about it.
Those numbers aren't impossible, that's for sure.

All ls1 cars, reguardless of model will make 350 Flywheel, which is right around 300 at the wheels. The F bodies were underrated in order to keep sales up on the Corvette. If you think about it. Who would buy a 350hp Vette when you could get the same power for half the price?

I never had my car DYNO'd bone stock, but after the install of LTs, exhaust, lid, and K&N I DYNO'd 330whp on a Mustang DYNO. Assuming the 10% difference, on a DYNO Jet that would be 363whp.
That is going through a 9", which is supposed to be 6% less efficient than a 10 bolt. Also a M6 and 2002, so I have the LS6 intake.

Not bad numbers. I dynoed mine after Frost adjusted a few transmission settings and made some minor adjustments to the stock and tune put his on and with a lid, catback with the cutout closed on a 90 degree humid day I made 300/308 through an A4

Well your buddy might be right on. By my math if he is a M6 with about 15% loss then at the flywheel he makes about 376hp. If he's an A4 with about a 18% loss then he's making about 385hp. Mabey he used the wrong percentage in his numbers, either way he's stioll close with his estimate, unless my math is wrong. what did he make for rwtq? Is he really stock? I've read through a few threads where people claim numbers on a "bone stock" car and then later say that they have headers or an aftermarket catback, lid, ect... If he is all stock then he's got himself a factory freak and even that isn't unheard of. I hope he really is making those numbers, he'll spend a lot less than most of us on getting to his power goals.

The LS1 f-body's were grossly underrated by GM, as they have the same engine as the Corvette. The advertised rating is more fitting for rwhp; If they had advertised crank, it would display to the general buying public as a rival to the more expensive and pristine Corvette, power wise.
