What kind of clutch costs $2,000???
So, at work today, towards the end of the night, this kid comes in to get his alignment checked out. He's driving a late 90's early 2000's Mustang GT. He states even before the mechanic has the keys, to be careful with the clutch because its new, and he doesn't want him to burn it up.
Well, the mechanic starts to pull it in, and as hes trying to go up the alignment rack, he keeps rolling back down because he doesn't want to stall. Well, our customer waiting room has 3 huge glass windows that see right into the shop, so this kid is watching our every move. Well, the mechanic stalls the car, and I say, "Hey, you want me to pull it up there?" So, he gets out, and as I start the car and start moving it, I look in the rear view mirror, and I see the salesman walking out with the customer.
Before I get it on the rack, I hear another mechanic tell the salesman that the customer asked if he can pull the car up there on his own. Well, the salesman told him no. The customer says, "Why not?" The salesman says, "Why do you want to pull it on yourself?" The customer says, "Because I told you guys I have a $2,000 clutch in there." The salesman says, "Well, my alignment machine cost more than $2,000, and I'm not gonna risk you jumping it off the rack into our machine."
Now, this was a BONE STOCK, from what I could tell, Mustang GT. The only things I could tell were done were Flowmasters, rims, pillar guages (battery voltage, and some other non-important one), and some sub-frame connectors of some sort. So my question is, what kind of clutch, besides a high performance racing clutch, would cost $2,000, and why the hell would you put it in a stock Mustang GT?
P.S. That story probably could have been a lot shorter than that, so uh...sorry.

Right off the bat I figured this guy was full of BS. Especially since he said he had a $2k clutch in this pussy looking mustang. The only thing I suggested to everyone else at work that thought the same, was that whoever installed it, charged him an arm and a leg for parts and installation.

Pewter- 2001 Camaro Z28 M6
there are clutches out there that cost well over $2000.00....multi-plate race setups.
however this kid/mustang owner is an idiot
here is a $6000.00 clutch... just the pressure plate and friction plates...plural as in many...

now the kid could have bought an installed an Exedy Clutch for about 2K... Assuming the kid is telling the truth. however what is the point of a 2k clutch when the car only puts down 220rwhp, and maybe 260 at the fly
