We have a pit mix that was around 120lbs at the time latch on to my lab/shpherd mix and wouldn't let go... one good solid punch from me to her head and she let go and backed off. The lab was protecting his kitty buddy. I don't want to fight a dog, but a pit grabs on to my dog it's getting hurt and if not it better kill me first! But I have to say I never met a mean pit in my life. Some of the friendliest dogs I ever been around! I've been bit collies and thats about itother than a shepherd when I was 3.
Anyways it's not the dogs fault, it's the owner... I'd deal with him.

As a veterinarian and a doberman owner please listen to me when I tell you that you need to calm down and try to resolve this matter in a correct and legal manner. I'm sorry to tell you, but no matter how much protection training your dog has or how much more he weighs a fight with another dog, much less a pit bull, it would not end in his favor. Even if he "technically" wins the fight he will not come away without injuries. I see the results of dog fights (caused pit bulls and not) day in and day out. And the damage (both physical and financial) caused by even "non-aggressive" breeds can still be very impressive. Did you train your dog? If not, several thousands of dollars were put in to him to get him to that level of training.
I recommend keeping a log of his trespassing and what the dog does on your property as well as any interaction you notice with other people/dogs in the neighborhood. Call both animal control and the police with any danger or trespassing you notice. And yes it might take multiple calls until you are addressed, but keep it up. If there are not leash laws in your area there should still be trespassing and rabies vaccination laws. You should be able to look up your local animal laws over the internet for your area. I would suggest reading them to see what your rights are and to see which ones he may be violating.
Because you need to ask yourself, is it really worth it to possibly have your dog hurt, if not killed, just to see who will win a pissing contest? Please don't let your temper put your dog in harm's way unnecessarily.
