SOM- 2002 SS
Reccomend a Short throw shifter for my 01 !
Just bought an 01 Z28 ! First mod just has to be a short throw shifter. It appears to have a Hurst knob which last I remember was an option back in 97 (my bro bought a new 97 ss).
Any reccomendations?
thanks !

Thanks guys. Yeah I had a b&m for my c4 with a zf tranny and all I can say it was large piece of scrap metal.
I'll be ordering one of those. Now on to the next mods !!

what about an aftermarket Hurst shift kit? Are they not as good as the 5.0?

Do you guys have problems with the 5.0 making a vibration noise when running 3,500+ rpm? I really like the feel and look of my 5.0 and short stick but can't stand the rattle. Any help with getting rid of the rattle?

The rattle really doesn't come from the shifter per say... it comes from the less dampening compare to the stock shifter. I eliminate 80% of the rattle noises by felt taping all the console panels around the shift console. I also taped up the metal dangler on the fold up cup holder, since it never gets used anyway.

Mine had major rattles and a weird vibration with the stock shifter, ofcourse once i pulled it off and was in the process of putting on my hurst i saw about 3 bucks worth of change in there, quarters, dimes, nickles and pennies. Guy before me had a secret stash of loose change.

Midnight Blue- 2000 Camaro Z28
pro 5.0 with lou's short stick. it's the bent one that brings your shift knob closer to you. works perfect!!

I have a Red Ball Shifter on mine. I replaced the shifter with the stock and it seemed to really eliminate most of the noise. Just an observaation.

Pro 5.0!
I've had one in my car for 8yrs now, no complaints, great shifter.
FYI, the shifter arm can be cut down 1", and still have plenty of threads left for your shift knob, 8yrs now!

I have the MGW short shifter it's a bit more expensive then the pro 5 but you don't have to replace the stick and it makes no noise. It looks like it belongs in the car too and the optional shift knob is very nice. So far this is the best aftermarket shifter I've had in any of my cars. If you can afford another $50 I highly recommend this one. They don't show one for our cars on their website but they make one you just have to call.

The number one reason you should buy a shifter is not for the shorter throws, it is for the stoppers so you dont "overthrow" a gear and bend a fork.

Id have to agree with above comment, to add ive tried B&M, Hurst and Pro 5.0. Out of all those the best shifter is the Pro 5.0 because its just short enough, has the bump stops and youll hardly ever miss a gear. The only thing i didnt like about it was the shifts were not short enough but a good quality shifter no doubt. This time i went with Hurst again mainly because i hardly drive the car and pound on it, the shifts are shorter then the Pro 5.0 but not by much and i got a good deal on it.
