With all due respect... I'm not exactly a spoiled kid... I pay for EVERYTHING on my car aside of the insurance part... Including upkeep, gas, etc... If I get a flat tire and I don't have the money to pay for it, the car sits until I can scratch together the funds... The only reason they pay for my insurance is because of my grades... And when I say grades I don't mean "Oh go to college and we'll take care of it" ... No... It's go to college and don't get below a 3.5 in the hunt of a Mechanical Engineering degree... And on top of that I have a job that I work 20-30 hours a week.

+1 for me, I've been thinking of upgrading as well. I think it's probably because there are more kids wrecking camaro's than corvetes, so it's a higher risk car statistically.

As previously stated, when I was in college my folks paid for my insurance too. While I worked 20-30 hours per week and was in school for an Aerospace Engineering degree.

I stand by my statement....if you can spend 12k on a car, you should be cutting your parents a break and paying for your own insurance from that point on. I'm not backing down from this pov, so I guess we're done discussing it.

I've already spent 12k on a car (actually 10.5k)... The one I have now... I'm not getting a Vette (if you didn't read the previous posts)... I'm going to invest about 6k into my car and put the rest into savings.

I wouldn't use the word "invest" since it's a depreciating asset, but "spend" is just fine. I can't talk much...I had a Vortech SC'd Mustang GT before I sold it this past summer. I had 17k into it including the cost of the car and sold it for 10k.

I have my eyes on a C5Z next spring!

I'd love to have a C5Z...if only it came in convertible . Not like it would hurt the performance that much.

Same situation for me. I chose to stop modifying the Camaro and save for a nice Vette.

I just sold my 'semi-rare' Firehawk for the same reason - ZO6 is what will be next.
