The HP site is the only one that shows you what specs you will be getting. Where as the Dell only shows you what could be in there. Also on the dell page the icon says Vista but in the spec sheet they only show XP options. Thats if the OS is something that concerns you.

I have had dell and they work good. I dont think I would like a touch screen. Can you use a regular mouse with the hp? What are you going to be using it for mostly?

Yeah you can use a normal mouse on the HP.
On the Dell, I can pick the OS pretty much.
I'm not sure if this link will work or if it's based off of a cookie, but here's a list: click me

It worked. Most of the dells have a small hard drive on that list. The hp has a much bigger one.

I have never used either one of those but at work we have touch screens all over the place and no one ever uses one. Its a cool factor in the beginng and then it dies off and you back to the mouse and keyboard.
on another note I have a touch screen jukebox that dubs as a server. I use the touch screen on that only
hope that helps

Totaly agree. Now if you are going to use it just to listen to music and e-mail, it should be fine. But if you wanted to download movies or play games 80-120 might not be enough for you. Then again if you were going to get it JUST to listen to music, e-mail and some microsoft word, you can buy a cheap dell for like 500-800 that could do JUST that fine. Also I dont know for sure but i dont think that videocard in the dell is DX10. The HP one is and has a 500 gig hard drive. I would pick the HP.

current hard drive is 40GB... 500 seems huge. Though I also remember when I couldn't imagine filling all of the huge 20MB hard drive that we put into a 286....
I'm not terribly concerned about the size of the dell. The dell isn't a "laptop" but the portability is nice. The HP seems to be almost as portable, just not "designed" to be that way.
The touch screen really isn't that big of a deal for me one way or the other. The novelty of that wore off when I used to set up point of sale systems as part of where I was working at the time.
The biggest turn ons for the dell is the 20 inch monitor with laptop functionality. I'd like a laptop, but screen size of only 15 inches is a bit small these days.

Most laptops have monitor outputs or s-video making it easy to hook up to a tv.

Both are crap if you ask me. Had dells before and absolutily hated them. HP i have heard nothing but complaints from people. I have a sony vaio and that's what we have at work and I wouldn't go back to anything else.

In doing some more research, I think I'm going with a vaio as well.

I work for Dell, replacing hardware. I can tell the warranty is good, but I have gone back to replace the same part multiple times. Phone support sucks, the model you are looking at I have only had to work on those twice in the almost two years I have been there.
It's hit or miss, just like with any laptop. I have been out to replace an LCD on a laptop and the person had no other problems, on the other hand like I said before, I have been sent back to the some people with the same problem that can't be fixed.
