radio stations pay royalties each time they play a song. technically, putting a song on youtube is broadcasting. international copyright laws. some artists put effort into trying to control what of their stuff gets published on the web. ac/dc seem to be like that.

I hear you, it just seems like for so long no one cared every video on the net had a song in it. Shit now on myspace you can listen to an artist/groups entire discorophy for free. It cost to download it but you can listen to it on myspace all you want. Not sure if its ac/dc or youtube themselves because I was on a couple other peoples sites and even on some artists myspace and even the video on an offical artist myspace is blocked.

I got nailed by using Nickleback's Rockstar ...
How'd they find these specific instances?

each label, in fact each artist handles it differently (see: metallica). since the record market broke down, some artists try to force the consumer to continue buying music and others are going a different way. madonna left her record company and signeda deal with a concert agent...

There are also programs out there that can capture just the audio from a video, and voila, if its high-enough quality, you are essentially downloading music for free.

While I feel for you, I do agree with the Artist's trying to limit the loss or use of their copyrights for free. They did the work, put in the time and expense to create their songs and record/produce them. They are entitled to some compensation for their efforts. When was the last time any of us went into work. Punched in and said "Hey Boss, I know you'd like to pay me for my work today, but some guys I have never met would like to use what I create for free.... So I will put in this weeks work for no pay..."
Just saying everyone deserves to get paid for what they do is all.
Don't hate me

Yeah but if your Oprah rich and im just making a badass video and no one is profiting/loosing money from it then why bitch?
Because you used my music illegally I have to settle with silver plated crap instead of gold. Any seen the south park episode about that? I support local bands and WILL not download any of their music but once your rolling in the cash GTFO

So the extent of the theft or the degree of "wrongness" is determined by the wealth of the defendant ? It's not ok to Car Jack little Johnny because he only makes 12.50/hr, but Jocko Schmidt is worth 3 million a year so it's ok if he gets jacked ?
Not arguing with ya. Just trying to determine where your limits are ?
To me personally, that sounds like the justification the teenage kids use when they broke in and kifed my buddies tools and truck. I have nothing. He had a lot, and I only took "some of his stuff".
Not saying your a thief. Just trying to wrap my head around how it's ok because they are rich and the offending individual is not.
Sounds alittle to much like socialism to me man...

You guys are comparing apples to 2x4s(oranges would be too close).Example 1 with the head porting, how did you get the heads to scan for the CNC? Too much vagueness to justify and a poor example. You cant patent a port job. EXAMPLE 2. Destruction of personal property is always wrong and criminal act. Yeah chip foose is a rich bastard but im not gonna go knife all his awesome creations tires.
Nothing to do with socialism. NO ONE IS MAKING MONEY OFF YOUTUBE.
I know everyone on here has downloaded music illegally, you putting a video on youtube for your enjoyment isnt causing destruction of property or anything like the examples above. So when are we gonna start charging people to listen to FM radio?
