So I got a tattoo Friday while I was in Florida and the guy told me not to sleep on my back, dont take a tub, and put lotion on it. Well I have been doing that but it's still really sore and some of the lines are still raised. Is this normal? cause it's freaking me out, ha

ACCURATE care for tattoos, READ THIS.....

a close friend of mine owns a tattoo business and I am covered in tattoos.

DO NOT USE...-tattoo goo, vasaline or A&D ointment.

your body knows how to heal itself, let your body heal on its own. Secondly products like tattoo goo, cause the scabs to stay moist and fall off too soon. Products like A&D ointment, clog skin pores since its an oil based product and can destroy skin color.

To care for a your new tat...

-during the first three days:
wash the tattoo in a non fragrance soap, 3 to 4 times a day. (soap such as Dove)

after the first three days, use a non fragrance dry skin lotion, apply a few times a day until the tattoo is healed.

do not pick the scabs
you can bathe shower, however no swimming pools or tubs. or direct sun light. When drying off, tap the towel on the tattoo do not scrub.


in regards to what you are feeling, yes tattoos, can stay swelled for a good amount of time. In regards to the pain, a new tattoo should only feel like a sunburn. Anymore pain then that should be checked out by a doctor for infection. also it depends on the colors too. All tattoo inks are made up of metals for the pigment. A beyond normal pain or swelling can also be caused by an allergic reaction to the tatto ink. For ex: Red is the most rejected color.

my last tattoo was around my wrist... wrist an ankle swell up alot making the joint difficult to move. However its normal.

Also if you get more tattoos, a strong rule to follow, do not allow the tattoo artist to tattoo you for more then 2 1/2 hours. Any sittings longer can traumitize the skin and ruin the tattoo, causing fuzzy edges, color issues and painful healing.
