I'm happy for you man, and you should have enough left over to get a few mods.

I would probably get a $2,000 loan and build a new engine the way I would want one... and then sell my old LS1 parts.

No, they did not give me a check they just cut it to the dealership where I had the work done. So after I went to pick it up I just wrote a $500 check and drove off. Didn't really think of the LS6 then, just had the LS1 put back in. Pretty straight forward process though.

If they pay for a new engine, they can charge a betterment based on wear. Same thing with any "wear item". If you don't have a copy I'd ask them to send you a copy of the "policy". Read it and see what it says about "betterment". Ask them how they calculated the betterment charge. ie.. $3200.00 engine at 50% betterment would be a$1600.00 deduction. READ YOUR POLICY, most people don't, and don't know what they are buying for insurance. It's a contract, you pay the premium and they cover losses based on the policy. THAT is why going with the lowest bidder on your coverage is not the best bet. The only thing a lawyer can do for you is to make sure they follow the letter of the policy.
Good luck

Okay heres the deal. I found an engine 12 miles away. 42k miles on that parts search site someone gave me. It is from LKQ Motors in Santa Fe Springs. They are selling it for 2k. Labor is going to be 700$. What other parts would I need to make the engine work? And can anyone recommend me to a good clutch/flywheel?

All your accessories should transfer. As long as it's out of the car, new plugs and check over the engine for signs of leaks, small or large. Replace gaskets and seals as needed or as the budget allows. Good time for any upgrades, labor will be cheap with the engine out of the car. I'm an auto, can't help on the clutch.

Depends on what your future plans are. If you are going to stay stock and not do much hard driving stay with a stock clutch or go the LS2/LS7 route. If you want something that will hold up better then I suggest look at RAM clutches. That is what I have in my car now and it drives just fine (sometimes chatters a bit), and I just have the stock flywheel. The RAM cost me about 400-450 for all the parts including a new pressure plate.

Well I'll probably do I/H/E only. MAYBE a tune. Just looking for a light weight flywheel and a decent clutch.

That confused me -- I was thinking "intake/heads/exhaust". HAHA!
If that's the extent of your planned mods, I would highly recommend the LS7 clutch setup. I run the same clutch on my car -- haven't had a bit of trouble with it. Try Scoggin Dickey parts online -- great price.2002 Camaro SS M6, 2.5 PRC 5.3L heads, TFS 228/230 cam, FAST 92, bolt ons + a 10 lb bottle in the back.
1989 Corvette L98, A4, Full bolt ons, etc.

Why not? I thought they give you more horsepower because of the lighter weight and less mass your engine has to move? Or something like that. Revs faster too right?

That is correct it will show more horses on a dyno, and will rev faster. However, you loss the inertia form the rotating mass when you are moving from a dead stop. If you a drag racing this is very important. In a street car it is not that huge a deal you will just have to use more gas to get the car moving the same amount from a dead stop. They work great for road racing because they need to move up and down the RPM range and almost never have to worry about a dead stop and getting the rest of the drivetrain to start moving.

More likely to bog off the the line at the drag strip. More fly wheel = better 60 ft.

Okay then I'll probably get the LS2 or LS7 clutch kit. Can anyone recommend me a good site with fast shipping? Arent they the best upgrades?

For a true street car that rarely sees the track and is under 400 RWHP the LS7 should be fine. Anything that is going to see more abuse I would go with something aftermarket. Remember the LS7 clutch is only rated for 500 some hp, which sounds like alot, but it is flywheel horsepower, and for a car that weighs much less then an F-body. However, my stocker held up fairly well considering it had 130K+ miles when I replaced it, but had I been running stickies it would have gone out fast.

I'm not gonna do any major mods to the car. Would it be better for LS2 then?
