Hope all goes well. Great time to upgrade if you can afford it.

The adjuster came and looked at the car. I was told by him that they will most likely put a used engine in? We are expecting around 4 grand to be the amount. Does that sound fair?

Try and get them to give you a check to cover install (at a dealership) + the cost of a new engine from GM (list price). You have paid for the insurance now it is time for them to do their job. Then you can get what you want. If you want to keep it very stock I would suggest one of the LS6 crates (short block is about 3k). Hope it all works out well for you, please keep us updated.

Where is the GM list price? And I was told labor to cover a engine swap would be around 1500 dollars. Plus I gotta buy the oil, spark plugs, Air Filter, starter, sensors, etc?

I would suggest just call up your local dealership and ask them what they would charge. You will be surprised at the price. Here is what I could find for the MSRP

Just right around 6800. Of course the insurance company will want to pay as little as possible, but don't be afraid to negotiate and get what you should out of it. Once you settle just like if a tree fell on your car they are done with you for this claim.

Just to chime in here...I had the same thing happen to me a couple of years ago. My ins co paid for a brand new crate motor without any hassle. My out of pocket was only $500. So I hope you get done right by your ins co. GL.

Why 500$ out of your pocket? And they paid for all the labor too right?

Oh okay. Well lets pray that it happens that way with me. Did you put an LS6 in? And did they give you the check? Or how did it work out?

So they said they are going to give me 4021.54$ with the betterment charge and deductible charge taken out. What could I get with that?

That LS6 engine is the one that I got from them. You can just get a short block and reuse your intake, exhaust manifolds, accessories, etc. You will also need to buy some new plugs and maybe some sensors. Unless you buy used, $4000 is not going to be enough. How did they come up with that amount? My insurance company allowed me about $5900 for my engine a few months back.

Yeah but my engine had 76k miles and they are taking out a percent of that outta the total. Like 1300$ for a betterment charge or something. Then for my deductible which is 500$.

My car had 60,007 miles. They are responsible for returning it to working order. You can't help it if the replacement motors and labor are so expensive. I have never heard of a betterment charge whatever that is.

Well I dunno how else to get out of the charge. They said that the average life of the LS1 is estimated at 200k. They are taking the 4200 and putting my engine at 70k They are charging me what it would be in a percent then taking it out of the price.

I agree, if this was a body panel that was damaged and needed replacement there would be no betterment charge. I can understand where they are coming from, but remember the adjuster is trying to get away with his company paying as little as possible. If you are a student talk to your campus lawyer, find out if you have rights etc.
