Thread: Service men (and women) question

I have had a few people thank me in the airports and everything when I go home on leave from deployment. Other than that I am never in uniform outside of the Ft Hood area. When i was at home on leave my buddies introduced me to a few bartender friends they knew and said I was home from Iraq for a couple weeks and I got a few free drinks. Also I have been bought a meal and a pillow in the airports. I always try to decline gifts because I really don't like people buying me things just because I am in the army but I try not to offend them either. If I get a thanks I try to smile and take the time to shake there hands and say your welcome.

When I was in 2000-2004 I heard some thank you's here and there. I really didn't get much of them. Now that I am out and people ask about my life and I tell them I served and where, I get thank you's all the time.

they are the biggest Men I have ever seen. I
wouldn't want to fight them!
Me: That is why no one will remember your name!

i love going to big events like fleet week in san fran, or the rose festival in portland. People are so awesome and nice and it is a big party. I do hate the people who always protest though, it angers me so damn much

i have gotten some compliments, and some strange looks (i got to a liberal school), but in general people are just more polite to me, i love walking by protestors in uniform, it gives me such a good ironic feeling

even though you may hate them and what they stand for, it is their right to be able to protest peacefully, and that is one of the rights that service men and women fight for.

Never been thanked, but again I dont do it for the public appreciation. I just dont want to hear the negative comments. And I do hear alot of those.
