It all depends on how much power you ultimitly want and how much you got to spend. then you can decide were to go with it.

What is your price limit, power goal, and what do you want to use the car for?
Also are you an automatic or 6 speed?

If thats the case then yea the LT4 should be fine.
If you buy the LT4 kit, go ahead and get the heads and intake ported before you install it.
BTW you should be able to take a 5.0 no problem even stock.

and if you get pullies make sure you get the set that comes with the alternator pully as well. With justa regular one, the alternator would not charge up enough. You can get the set from summit for like 80 bux.

Unfortunately GM Performance Parts does not offer the complete LT4 Package anymore. You can still get the LT4 Cylinder Heads, as well as the standard LT4 cam or "HOT" cam upgrade, but not the original intake. Edelbrock does however offer their version of the LT4 intake.
For the money I would skip the LT4 setup altogether. A more cost effective solution to what you wan't would be the LE1 heads & cam kit from Lloyd Elliot. It will put you right around 370rwhp with an M6, long-tube headers, 58mm TB and a good dyno tune, for about $1200 + the cost of supporting bolt-ons.97 Z28 1LE #53 11.08/122.84 N/A, 9.82/131.06 150-shot

if money ain't a thing get 210 AFR's and then build a motor around 'em.
2000 red ss: >2" drop, koni adjustables 'n 275 s-compounds all way around, giant brakes, dynatech LT's, borla catback (no plate), t56, tubular everything, HARD TOP, caged, "stock" heads 'n a mean cam. -2* front camber.

yea ive been looking at several different options. however body work has now come into play because i took a deer out doing about 80mph. a buddy on mine is doing the body work so that wont dent me to much.
and stock 5.0's are no problem both my cousins have the same exact one. however one is a 5 speed with some bolts ons and spray. the other is stock aod. suck the stock one up easy. and not to far off the other except for when he sprays. my main goal is to get a good 13 second pass all motor.
When im a the track my problem is hooking i have bad 60 foots like 2.6 and my 1/4 time is at best so far 14.4 at 102mph thats spinning through third. I just got new tires but the deer screwed up my track visit :-(

The lt4 setup can get him into the 12s as well.
You would just need to do some porting to the LT4 heads and intake

An LT4 kit with supporting bolt-ons and tune would run 12's right out of the box!
I'm all for the LT4 setup if he's willing to dish out the xtra dough. The LT4 has it's advantages, like a stronger midrange and better driveability when compared to a built LT1 setup. But their pricey. For much less a Lloyd Elliot kit or a setup from Advanced Induction could be had.

Very true, but I can get the LT4 kit and Loyd Elliot for about the same price.
LT4 being a little bit more of course but then again you dont have to wait 3 weeks either.

If I remember correctly isn't the LT4 heads/cam package over 2 grand? Plus you have to factor in the cost of the intake manifold. I know the LT4's can make some crazy #'s. I've ridden in a AFR 210-headed 385 LT4 '96 'vette that pulled like a MoFo. I've just always like Lloyds products. I ran the LE1.2 on my last LT1 car and made some really good #'s while maintaining emissions in CA.

LT1s have gone into the 11s with only bolt ons... been done more than once.
