Throwing Oxygen Sensor Related Codes
I have an ses light on, and just got my computer read. It is thowing both P0420 and P0430 codes. Autozone's computer says this means bank 1 and 2 are below threshold for current engine operatings conditions??? What the hell does this mean? Does this mean both of my cats are bad or just the o2 sensors? I'm planning on purshasing lt headers and off road y in the near future, so would it be safe to ignore this until then? Also, is there any common shops that usually have the capability to delete the rear sensors, because I dont know of any around here.

It's more likely bad cats than 02's. Your choice I guess, won't cost you anything but a little down time to have the dealer replace them. Guessing you don't have to worry about emissions.

hmm. . . ill prob go ahead and try this first then.
Now . . this may not mean anything and I may sound dumb with this, but my tips get really black, fairly quickly, so in turn making me wonder if shes runnin rich. so could this be a factor in this whole situation? i know the front o2 can control air fuel ratio.

I had those two codes and new cats got rid of them. I got them under that warranty too!

I had that problem earlier this spring. The two things I did to fix it:
1) Lucas fuel system cleaner / lubricant
2) I cleaned the Mass Airflow Sensor. Since I use a K&N, sometimes the oil ends up coating the little wires, and causes problems with the AFR. They make a cleaner designed for MAS for like $5.
Between the two, it fixed my errors.

so you dont have to be the original owners to get the cats swaped by the dealer guys?

Nope, as long as you have the codes show up and you're in the time/mileage bracket you should be able to get new ones. If the dealers say they have never heard of it ask them to check for it in their computer system if they didn’t already. I had to explain to them what it was and they were pretty skeptical lol, then they looked and found it.

my service engine light is on when i went to chek it it came out as both the first oxygen sensors on bank 1 and 2 are either runnig too lean or rich? is that enough evidence for them to change the cats fo me!

Federal emissions warranty is 8 years or 80k miles (whichever occurs first) This covers converters and the PCM. SOME F-bodys had a special policy on the converters for 10 years or 120k miles. The only way to tell is to have the dealer diagnose the problem and figure out if it is even the converters themselves.
