Water spots on Alloy wheels
Well, I searched the forum to see if anyone had already posted about how to remove water spots on alloy but, found nothing.
I've tried Mothers which didn't remove all the water spots and then I tried Neverdull which removed more but, not all.
Its almost like the water spots are underneath the surface of the alloy. Anyone got any other ideas on how to remove the water spots and make the alloy wheels look like new?
They are not real noticeable unless you get right up on them.

Do you actually dry your wheels, or just let them air dry? If they stay there no matter what, just, maybe, paint them

No, I do dry them immediately but, sometimes I drive in the rain and I think that is the biggest culprit.
Sorry for the confusion. My rims are TTII polished alloy. Can't repaint those babies.....lol.

you may just have to get a dremel and polishing disc and compound and go to town on them. after you do that look into zoop seal i have herd good thing about it. it save you from having to polish stuff evry other day.

I really don't want to have to sand them with anything as the finish is still awesome.
Maybe I can just try the regular Turtle wax polishing compound with the powerball. Thanks for the input though. I'll try the zoop seal also.

dont be afraid of wetsandin with 2000 on aluminum. . . ya itll look dull right after you do it, but then we your polish them with the mothers. . . you'll be amazing by the deep shine. youll be pissed that you had never done it before. i just wetsanded my wheels for the second time a week ago.
now that i think of it. . throw that powerball in the trash and get an aluminum polish kit from eastwood. this could be the only reason you can't polish out your waterspots. Use a spiral sewn buff wheel instead. . it polishes so much better.Last edited by GULLETT17; 09-08-2008 at 11:37 AM.

You'll either need high-speed buffing or do what was suggested and use 2k grit, then buff to get the shine back. I wax mine after buffing which does help against water spotting but if I hear the Zoops works great too... albeit at a bit more cost.
Best of luck!

Yeah, looks like they have a lot of nice stuff. I used to use Flitz when I was in the Air Force on my F-111 titanium blast panels. I gradually worked my way to fine metal and then used Flitz to fine polish it.
Used it a bit on my F-15E also and we got it by the 1 gallon can through the supply system.
Thanks for all the info.

I found that overspray from tire shine removes water spots on my wheels when I wipe it off.

I haven't found that to be the case with me as most of the water stains is from rain/oxidation if I don't get to it right away.
I'm going to try some Flitz and some mild buffing to see what that does before I wet sand them. Polished alloy are very touchy in that you cannot let water stand on them for any length of time.
